Mike Foltynewicz Has been DFA’d by Braves per MLBN

why shouldn’t the O’s make a claim? Does He have to go through NL first?

Nope, it goes by record the previous year if multiple teams claim him.  Folty was an ace back in 2018 but that's been his only great season.  He's had a smattering of average performances.

I think he's better to have on the roster than journeymen like Milone or Leblanc though, and would be a decent reclamation project.  He will be 29 in October, so he may not be a piece to fit long-term with the core but he would be a good buy low candidate who we could flip at the 2021 deadline.

What, no Wei Yin Chen clamoring?  For shame, OH.  For shame.

He is the highest paid major league this season because he was released. Like so many wanted to do with Chris Davis.

Besides the point, it'd still be an increase to payroll which you suggest they're not interested in doing.

It will surprise me if they do.  Course, he has to clear waivers in the National league and with Detroit.... and not be traded.   A lot of hurdles.

That's a whole different argument.

Point being, if Elias likes the idea of him as a potential low cost/high reward piece I'm sure he'll put in a claim/take a hard look.

It’s the lowest record from the previous year regardless of league.

PROCEDURE FOR AWARDING OF WAIVER CLAIMS (TYPE OF WAIVERS):

If a player is claimed by only one club, that club is awarded the claim. If more than one club makes a claim, the club with the lowest winning percentage (regardless of league) either from the previous season (beginning on the day after the conclusion of the MLB regular season through the 30th day of the MLB regular season) or on the day the player clears waivers (beginning on the 31st day of the MLB regular season through the last day of the MLB regular season) is awarded the claim. If two clubs with the same winning percentage make a claim, the club in the player's own league is awarded the claim. If two clubs from the same league make a claim and they are tied in the standings, the club with the lowest winning percentage from the previous season is awarded the claim. If the clubs are still tied, standings from two years back (or three years back, four years back, etc) are used to break the tie.

PROCEDURE FOR AWARDING OF WAIVER CLAIMS (TIME OF THE YEAR):

1. During the off-season and up through the first 30 days of he MLB regular season, the previous season's MLB standings are used to determine waiver claim priority.
CoViD-19 EXCEPTION: Beginning on June 28 2020, and extending up through the first 20 days of the 2020 MLB regular season, the previous season's MLB standings will be used to determine waiver claim priority.
