Good guess, Carlton was second with 12.5 WAR.  It was actually Dwight Gooden with 13.3 in 1985. 

3rd was Carl Yastrzemski in 1967 with 12.4

The leader in 20th century season WAR was Walter Johnson with 16.5 in 1913.  You can collect a lot of WAR in 346 innings. 

Since you have the last and closest guess, you make the next question.  Probably should restrict it to 5 answers before giving the answer if no one guesses it, to keep the game going.  No consecutive guesses by same person.

Since I don't think you'd ask it if it was one of the "obvious" answers, plus I think a couple obvious guys might have missed the first couple years of the 50s, I am going to guess
