AL East vs. NL East and the Rest of Interleague Play

I have heard it said that the NL East is almost as competitive as the AL East. Please, don't make me laugh.

Baltimore 11-7

Boston 11-7

New York 10-8

Tampa 13-5

Toronto 7-11

That's 52-38 head to head (.578). Otherwise:

Chicago 11-6

Cleveland 5-13

Detroit 10-8

Kansas City 8-10

Minnesota 12-6

Los Angeles 14-4

Oakland 5-13

Seattle 11-7

Texas 9-9

In total, that's 137-114 in favor of the AL (.546). Only 5 of 16 NL teams had winning records in Interleague play this year.

People keep trying to argue that the NL is the better league because they are a more competitive and therefore a more fascinating league to follow.

The fact of the matter is, in combination with All Star Games and World Series, the interleague records have proven that year after year on a consistent basis, the American League is simply better. Hands down.

It could be argued that the NL is more interesting because the teams are more evenly matched, but the NL certainly is not "better," in the literal sense of that word.
