Let the Games Begin

The drills are very important, but games are more fun. All is well when there is baseball at the Buck O?Neil complex at Twin Lakes Park. Today is the opening of the Orioles Minor League scrimmages and I have never seen more cars here. Fans are discovering how entertaining it is here and how easy it is to gain access to two games every day. Today, the ?AAA? and ?AA? squads traveled to Fort Myers to play their Red Sox counterparts, while the ?A? teams are home.

This year there is a little twist on things as they are playing one of the games on Diamond 4, rather than on Diamond 1. This change was requested by the players for various reasons, primarily because of the sun position. The fields are arranged in a circle so it?s just a clockwise ?twist.? One game is still held on Diamond 2.

The players are assigned to squads having the same names as the minor league affiliates. However, the squad names do not necessarily reflect the minor league team rosters. Players are moved around so they can gain playing time and be evaluated alongside of players of varying experience.

It is good to see so many friends here; fans, media, coaches and players.
