  1. You know I'm a believer in Ortiz and I think he may have been one the best developments this season outside of Henderson becoming the #1 prospects in baseball. But saying that, he has less than 100 PAs at AAA so I don't think you can say it serves no purpose to send Ortiz back. Now saying that, I do think you give him an opportunity to win the 2B job next spring and if he does, then great, but Elias tends to want at least 200 PAs in AAA before bringing guys up so a month or two more in AAA next year to prove he wasn't just on a summertime heater would really make him knocking hard on the door.
  2. Mateo is quite the dilemma, but in a good way. His defense is most of his value but when you consider he's playing a GG level SS, that's significant value to any team. His ability to be a disrupter on the base paths and occasional gap pop gives him some additional value despite obvious short comings with getting on base regularly. I think Mateo needs another year to cement his value and I think that's what the Orioles will do next year. He will play SS, Henderson will go to 3rd. 2nd base should be a battle between Urias, Westburg and Ortiz with Westburg being the most likely candidate to win the job. Urias could move back to utility and Ortiz gets extra AAA at bats to prove he wasn't just on a heater in the second half of the year.
  3. Mullins keeps watching his big pay day go down the drain at bat by at bat.
  4. Oh well, let's hope they can recover and win enough to keep them over .500...
  5. Yeah, Orioles in one of those offensive slumps that feels like every game where the other team gets a few runs seems insurmountable.
  6. Clearly the threat of the immortal Aguilar scared him out of the game.
  7. Here's the play. Statcast said it was a 80% catch rate. Hays has several of these plays this year unfortunately. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/sporty-videos?playId=a37316b6-6cb7-4172-9e74-9d7c448ec556
  8. That's where I'm at. It's been a really fun season and to even be mathematically still in a wildcard hunt on September 20th is quite the accomplishment for this team after coming off a horrid 2021. If they can finish .500 or above, that's icing on the cake for this season.
  9. Here's the MiLB article on it. Looks like just Charlotte which means with get six games worth of data in May. https://www.mlb.com/news/minor-league-prospect-statcast-standouts-of-2022 First look, Grayson Rodriguez is a beast, and no one hits the ball harder and more consistently harder than Kyle Stowers in Norfolk.
  10. Yeah, I just did and it worked great. I'm going to keep trying to the other stadiums to see if they work, but definitely has full statcast for the games in Charlotte.
  11. I'm assuming you tried the others stadiums including Norfolk? Where di you get the game ID?
  12. At 5-10 (maybe), Norby is not the ideal size for a first baseman even if his bat suggest he can play there. Westburg however could be a guy who moves there if he's not part of a trade for pitching or a big bopper outfielder.

Haha, What I mean is people should not be EXPECTING the same rise as Gunnar had because he is so special. Honestly, I was doing that comparison for my myself to see how he stacked up to Henderson and Mountcastle at the same age/level to see if he was a disappointment in the first half.
  14. I'd love to know how he got that information on his minor league numbers. I wish MLB would allow minor league statcast numbers to be shared on baseball savant.
  15. Urias has the stronger arm for me. Urias' arm is not really that bad, it's his below average lateral movement and his arm action makes it tough for him to be an effective second baseman or shortstop. He does not turn the double play well at either spot. He good at third base because it's a reaction position. Westburg just has below average arm strength for the left side of the infield. He's got plenty of lateral quickness in my estimation and he has a good game clock for throws, similar to Hardy but Hardy had the extra arm when he needed it, Westburg not so much. Westburg could ultimately end up at 1B if he's not traded. I will say that he probably could be an ok 3B defensively but you won't get many of those wow plays when you need that arm strength.
  16. This. Ortiz is the best defensive SS in the minor league system by far and Hendseron is the bets defensive 3B. If Ortiz's bat shows to be the real deal at the major league level, that's going to be the defensive lineup going forward. Now, if the team decides it will live with Mateo's bat for his glove at SS, than Ortiz moves to 2B where he would be GG caliber right off the bat. Westburg should be in the competition at 2b next year but it's notable that he only played the position 12 times in the last two months over 43 games. Seems to me they were more worried about showcasing Westburg as a SS/3B than preparing him as a 2B for next year. Now Westburg can play 3B and SS effectively from a hands standpoint and he'll make all the routine plays, but his lack of arm strength is going to limit his effectiveness, particularly at SS. but a team might be willing to live with that if they think he's a 25 homer guy while playing average to slightly below average defense.
  17. What a novel approach. Solve for a problem rather than just change things for change.
  18. Stttaahhhhhppppppp! We don't do that offended over everything here and you know that. Stat geek has been a term used for years. I'm proud of being a statgeek!
  19. What some people tend to forget is the player that would be playing in their place very well may have done the same thing and more in the many, many other chances where they have failed because they are not good players. The Orioles can bring up a career minor leaguers and they will have a moment or two.
  20. Kinda shows everyone how good he is already. I doubt very many teams or pitchers want to be in that situation with many players up, but with Adley, you almost know the game is going to get tied at the very least somehow.

    Coby Mayo 2022

The one thing we have to not do is try and compare to Mayo to Henderson. I've been as big on Mayo as anyone, but Henderson may be a generational type talent. At 21 years old next year, if Mayo can have a Norby-like AA season we all should be very happy.
  22. Lol.. Some of you guys crack me up. Aguilar finally ran into one. I know this thread would pop up the second he did run into one. He was dumb move, and who knows, Stowers may have run into two in this game if he had played the whole game. Nothing changes.
