  1. It really is interesting when you take guys of the past and put them through more accurate modern metrics and find out they were more valuable, or less valuable than you believed.
  2. Truth. I'm more hopeful of Zimmermann, T. Wells, Lowther and Baumann getting more of those innings with Kremer and Akin working more in long relief. Hopefully they can hold down those innings until Grayson Rodriguez and Bradish are ready to take on some.
  3. Let's remember some things here, Perez was once a very highly sought after Cuban arm. While he signed for $2 million with the Astros, they originally were going to sign him to a contract over 5 million but voided when they thought there was a problem with his arm. Perez claims that the Orioles in 2016 offered him a $10 million major league contract. Either way, Perez could very well be a diamond in the rough. He was never really developed properly because he had to be put on the 40-man shortly after signing due to "Perez signed with the team that previously voided his contract. Had another team signed Perez, that would not have been the case. Perez signed with the Astros the day after the 2016 Rule 5 draft. If the Astros signed him sooner, he would have been exposed to the Rule 5 draft this year and Houston almost certainly would have lost him." That made Perez run out of options before he was really ready to pitch in the major leagues. The arm is special and it's always been about command with him. Sounds familiar? Either way, Perez is basically Tanner Scott talent wise so now we have to see if he can be as good as the "good Tanner Scott" or at least be more consistent.
  4. Don't stop Buster Olney from screaming the MLBPA's talking points though. True journalists are a dying breed. To watch a guy who reports for a national entity embarrass himself like that tells us everything you need to know about the cucks who still work for them.
  5. Great comment. The difference in the guys that should be picking up innings this vs last year should allow the team to be better.
  6. This might explain why Martin is still on the team and not going down to start the year at Norfolk tomorrow.
  7. So in your opinion his awful second half was knee related? Then why did he have a 17.18 ERA in his previous 6 appearances in July? Small sample size for sure, but it shows he was bad before August 1st. I think Scott is an ok reliever and good guy to bring in with certain batters at the plate and in the right situation, but there never was a time I thought he should be the closer because of inconsistencies. Watching Perez in a few outings this spring, his stuff looks pretty similar and Scott has struggled this spring outside of his last game. I think there's a chance Perez could out perform Scott but honestly, I think they are pretty similar but Perez is a year younger. I just think Scott is never going to be consistent enough to be counted on in big moments so I think he's replaceable.
  8. True statement. The velocity though was very good.
  9. Well as you know, I'm not big on Smith who did make my top 30. I need to see some video of him before making that call. They must have taken away the ability to see last year's games on MiLBTV because I couldn't get them to come up. I imagine he starts at Bowie this year so let's see how he looks. I like lefties with great changeups.
  10. That's not how this works. The extra pick gives the team more money to spend across their top ten draft picks (And now three competitive balance picks). Not more money in the pockets of the ownership.
  11. I actually think the bullpen has a chance to be pretty decent. But we have to see.
  12. It's pretty hard to dislike this trade unless you overvalue a 32 year old middle reliever and a guy who has a career 4.73 ERA in 156 major league innings. Especially when you have their replacements on the 40-man roster in younger, potentially better pitchers.
  13. My take.. https://orioleshangout.com/scott-and-sulser-traded-to-marlins-for-prospects-and-draft-pick/
  14. Really good wrap up of the trade by MLBTradeRumors https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/04/marlins-to-acquire-tanner-scott-from-orioles.html
  15. No, none of the players acquired will need to be added. They basically opened up the two roster spots for the back up catcher and Owings.
  16. Have you been following the Orioles this spring? Maybe peruse the Spring training tracker. The Orioles have their replacements on hand. Perez is Scott's replacement, and pick your guy (Baker, Bautista, Baumann, and Krehbiel all have the capability to be Sulser. I'm not excited about Guerrero, but the fact they turned those guys into something, including a 2nd 3rd round pick is a bonus. I wanted Scott gone last year and while Sulser is a capable middle reliever, he's a waiver claim that just turned into something.
  17. The Orioles 40-man roster is at it's max and we know for a fact that a back up catcher will be added so at least one player is getting DFA'd. If The Orioles keep Owings, they would need another. Looking at the roster, Rougnad Odor is doing everything he can to play himself off the 40-man and be released, but I still get this feeling they are trying to keep him. If it's not Odor these are the guys that I think have the most chance to be DFA'd. 1. Logan Gillaspie - Not sure he was put on in the first place and his quick exit from the camp tells me he didn't impress that much. 2. Isaac Mattson - I still don't get the love for him. 3. Jahmai Jones - He's redundant and his defense is poor at 2B. He's way down the line for playing time at 2B. 4. Alex Wells - Stuff is just so below average that he very well make it through waivers.
  18. I missed this disaster of a thread. Thanks Joey for correct it and getting back. I'm going to lock it and start a new one over who will need to go from the 40-man to get back on subject.
  19. BTW, if we go by WAR as an Orioles, Hanser Alberto at 4.1 is the best by far. Severino is second with 3.0 WAR. Urias (2.0) could pass them this year and Sulser (2.2) could as well with a good year.
  20. I agree in Cowser's case. He's got that advanced plate discipline that should allow him to move quickly through the minor leagues. If he doesn't end the year with some significant AAA time I'll be a little disappointed. Every player is different but player with elite plate discipline and swing decisions usually will move faster and Cowser may be the best in the organization with this.
  21. Updated with 4/3 game.. Kremer, Baker and Bautista not good, Baumann good.
