  1. I hope he gets healthy but I really, really don't want him on the big club anymore. I like the flexibility the platooning that is going on with Urias, Santander and O'Hearn provides to rotate guys in/out. Mounty can only play 1B and he just doesn't hit well enough at this point to stay on this team.
  2. This isn't a Mountcastle thread but I hope he gets healthy but I really, really don't want him on the big club anymore. I like the flexibility that the platooning that is going on with Urias, Santander and O'Hearn provides to rotate guys in/out. 3. Spelling doesn't count! 1. Rutchman 2. Westburg 3. Henderson 4. Urias 5. Ortiz 6. Mullins 7. Hays 8. Santander 9. Benboom/McCann 10. O'Hearn 11. Cowser 12. Hicks 13. Mateo/Frazier (I can make a case for either or neither)
  4. Right up there with the McKenna dropped fly ball. Maybe worse since it was more than just one boneheaded play by one boneheaded player. The O's blew chances in both losses to the Reds. They could/should be only one back in the loss column. This is definitely a phase of mediocre play at best.
  5. That is correct. They could extend his existing contract past 2025 but that is the only way he'd get more money.
  6. That is not how that works. Hicks can not sign a contract for more money. He is locked into the current contract that he signed with the Yankees. They are on the hook for 100% of the remaining value. Hicks can walk away today and nothing will change that since the Yankees are the ones who cut him. The only way that they Yankees can avoid paying him 100% of the remaining contract is if Hicks signs with another team. That team is then on the hook for league minimum. There is no way for Hicks to get more money. He is under contract through 2025. The only question is does he play and for who?
  7. LOL... You may not appreciate this but I was in law enforcement and traveled to NO after Katrina as a supplemental LEO. Anyway, the folks at University of Alabama put us up in a hotel and fed us for free. I was very appreciative of their hospitality and generosity.
  8. LOL, I wonder if the change in coaching at Alabama will affect his thought process?
  9. Thanks for the info. That seems about right. He is held back by his defense I think. He does have a plus arm though.
  10. I can’t watch or listen to Russo.
  11. The game changed many years ago. Players and teams have no loyalty (not saying they should). Why would I as a fan be the only one to have loyalty? I want the best possible team year in and year out. For the O’s unfortunately, that means trading some good players before they reach FA. That’s the best way to stay competitive for extended periods of time. Not doing that is how you become the A’s or should I say the 2017-2021 Orioles.
  12. He stinks vs RHP and I’ve given up on him ever getting better. I’ve not given up on Gunnar
  13. Thanks Frobby. That was interesting to see. Also very interesting was that they used 60 different lineups (excluding pitchers) and the most often used was only 17 games. That seems like a lot for a WS champion but maybe not when looking at how often they platooned. Although, I don't really know much about lineup frequency.
  14. He didn't burn the bullpen. In fact, he managed it very well. I guess I am saying that I think he did the correct thing. I have no problem limiting Irvin. I would agree with you if it were one of the other starters but, not with Irvin.
  15. There is no rush to trade MAyo or really any other prospect. We do have a lot of promising prospects but we are not at a point where the roster crunch is such that we are forced to trade them. Mayo is only 21 and has to be added to the 40 man this off season (I think) and then he has three option years. So, worst case scenario is he finishes this year at AA and maybe even starts next year there. Then plays 24 and starts 25 at AAA. Gunner is in his 4th year then and may be traded for prospects. I don't see the O's signing these guys long term. I think the plan is to turn most if not all of them into multiple prospects before they reach FA. In order to do that, you need to be like the Rays and have guys like Mayo in AAA to replace them.
  16. I am as hopeful as the next guy but, guys don't usually come back from TJ and return to their peak right away. I think we are looking at 2024 before we see that version of Means. I am wondering if he could be slotted into the BP when he returns. He might be a real weapon if he can work a couple of middle relief innings here and there when they have a lead but the starter is done after 5 or 6.
  17. You don't know at this point what you're going to get out of Irvin. Maybe he implodes the second time through the order. Maybe Hyde dodged a bullet by having to limit his start by the delay.
  18. This guy is just filler like the other signings were. Easily replaced parts that serve a purpose but are not in any sort of development plans.
  19. Ttrimper and his staff came in 2016 only Gilbert played in the current system. On a local note, Gilbert played summer ball for the Bethesda Big Train in the Cal Ripken Sr. league in 2016.
  20. Does anyone remember a playoff team that platooned at SS? None comes to mind for me.
  21. I'd try this first to see if Mateo can keep his OPS vs LHP high enough to keep playing. If not, then I would go with the second lineup. #1 Versus LHP - 1B - Santander, 2B - Westburg, SS - Mateo, 3B - Henderson (Urias sometimes) Versus RHP - 1B - O'Hearn, 2B - Westburg, SS - Henderson, 3B - Urias #2 Versus LHP - 1B - Santander, 2B - Westburg, SS - Henderson, 3B - Urias Versus RHP - 1B - O'Hearn, 2B - Westburg, SS - Henderson, 3B - Urias Frazier may be a good pinch hitter. I'm really done with Mountcastle. I don't think he is a first division player.
  22. I don't subscribe... I'd like to find out what they said about Kemp Alderman of Ole Miss. I saw that he had a good couple rounds of hitting. Dude has near elite power but no position. Actually was a two way guy early on. I coached him during the summer of 2021 and man can he hit nukes!
  23. I'm rooting for a Nolan Schanuel pick. He fits the O's recent draft profile. LHH college bat with good power, hit tool and zone discipline. Also, I coached him during the summer of 2021 with the Bethesda Big Train summer team. Great kid, great mentality and great work ethic.
  24. I gave the Frazier signing the benefit of the doubt but he isn't hitting (some clutch hits) and he misses more ground balls by mere inches than any 2B in history.
