Winning this one would have help make up for last nights give away... but yet another game with just 8 hits.. 19 out of the last 30. We do need pitching but 8 hits isn't going to make it out of round one of the playoffs. We need a bat.. internal or otherwise.

Another game with 8 hits.. This time the pitching wasn't good enough.

We don't have a Best hitter. We have guys that show up for an inning or a few games but nobody consistently.

In another thread I expressed that this team has had eight hits or less over the past 25 games, 15 times. And that was with the real offense mostly.

I can see why that is still a fresh memory, ha!

Sometimes you just were supposed to lose.. 1) Didn't add on runs in multiple opportunities 2) Mateo didn't bunt over the runner with nobody out in the 9th. Also didn't attempt to steal, speculation was his leg might be othering him.. If true.. Urias to 3rd Westberg to SS and we win. 3) Cano strikes a pose you know isn't creating good karma. 4) Gunner has to leave the game bringing in a replacement that will lose the game. It was meant to be.. and it sucks. So add this to the McKenna drop the opening weekend and we gave away 2 games.

And they are in the thick of it currently...

Are the Bluejays in play at all for Ohtani?

Well if this is the premise, I don't think whatever the Angels acquire is going to make that big of a difference to go from being also-rans to being contenders. Especially for next season. "Maybe" at some point down the road if other good choices are made to fill in around him but he's heard that story already. And then you also risk his experience with another team for a couple-ish months and say the Rangers reach the WS with him, heaven forbid...

Well if they become buyers instead of sellers they may be able to add some pieces that move their needle enough.

That would be sheer stupidity... assuming that if they trade him it;s bacuse they are out of it... if you were the Angels wouldn't you love to get all their top prospects and then sign Ohtani in the offseason. That would be awesome.

Unless the Angels have a complete collapse over the next week, I agree. They are 4 games out with 3 teams to catch. Not sure how you could support trading him off if you are that close with 50-ish games to go.

I have to say now that I see it in print.. I agree. It will be the Rangers. They already were going to be an uphill climb for us.. that wouldn't help us at all.. ha!

I suppose it depends on the supply to understand the demand. How many clubs can even make a realistic pitch?

Would it cost more to get Bednar and Montgomery than Ohtani? Speculation, I know, since we can't know for sure at this point.

Agreed. Like most I don't want it to be us, and don't expect it to be. As was pointed out earlier.. how many more wins does Otani give us over the next 60 games than Montgomery or Stroman etc. He doesn't guarantee us a WS ring, although we'd be the AL favorite to get there. So for me, I am bottom 10 guys only for a rental otherwise I use them to get other pieces that may not be in total as productive, but hopefully productive enough.

I think there is some merit to monitor teams that are on the fence being sellers at the deadline. Padres, Mets, Angels, etc..
