  1. Was preparing for my stroke after seeing Davis in the lineup tonight.
  2. Look at wildcard, in on the fun! He gets it, guys! He really gets it!
  3. Give ol wildcard the benefit of the doubt and say he slipped up on this one.
  4. I've wanted him gone, too. But aside from having a shortened season in 2021, there's no financial reason to keep him on. And even if there's a shortened 2021 season he's still getting in the way of productive players or players that have upside. It's been indefensible up until now. If he's on the Opening Day roster for 2021, get out the pitchforks.
  5. What if? They gotta move on. This is getting ridiculous, it really is. I get wanting to minimize the damage to the salary but seriously, they gotta move on. They have too many players that need at bats and playing time in Baltimore and Davis creating a logjam prohibits the development of some of these guys, it prohibits the franchise from moving forward. Time to move on, 162 games in 2021 or not. It doesn't matter, they can't keep living in the past and worrying about this stupid-ass contract and/or kidding themselves that Davis can turn it around.
  6. Are you talking about the short stint in Baltimore? Or the .846 OPS in Bowie?
  7. This is about where I am. DD wasn't perfect but he and Buck presided over the only good teams in this century.
  8. I think that's a pretty short upper deck out there, IIRC the announcer said that the exit velocity was 98 mph.
  9. Short season be damned, not much would be sweeter in this dumpster fire of a year to see the Yankees and Sox finishing 4th and 5th.
  10. I think we can all agree that Hays has some interesting tools, however he just can't stay healthy, which sucks. I'm not so concerned about him figuring it out as I am concerned about him not being able to stay on the field long enough to figure it out. Stewart's OBP is the only thing that keeps me somewhat interested in him.
  11. Williams is a good defender, I think that's about it. I really don't care if Hays is jacked, that has little to nothing to do with being able to stay on the field. He got hit in the ribs, lots of players do...but Hays got sent to the IL for it, not everyone that gets drilled goes to the IL. @glenn__davis said it really well, he had a stellar season in 2017, there's not been much since then. IIRC, Mullins is a natural lefty and has always hit better from that side. He should scrap switch hitting and concentrate on being a lefty who can hit to the gaps and use his speed to take extra bases. And drop a good bunt. If he can do that, he might be able to stick as something more than a 4th outfielder.
  12. Fair points, it has been awhile since Hays has had a great season.
  13. There's no reason to give up on Hays until he gets hurt again. He's Mr. Glass. I'm fine with him as a 4th outfielder because that limits the amount of chances that he can get hurt but Mullins has worked his way into a decent (not great) player.
  14. Severino is having a great year. And while I'm sure he's not quite THIS good, he could be a valuable piece. Rutschman is in the wings, some expect to see him in Baltimore next year at some point. But if Severino is OPSing .921 next year, what do you do with him? Hell, even if he's OPSing .850, he's still got value. He's arbitration eligible after 2021 and a free agent after the 2024 season.
  15. I think the outfield for the rest of the season should be Mountcastle, Mullins, Stewart. And Mason Williams the 4th outfielder. I'm pretty much ready to give up on Hays, he just can't stay healthy. Hays is better than Mullins for sure but it doesn't matter if he can't get on the field.
  16. Dude needs to stay healthy. Much like Hays, he's his own worst enemy. Stewart has shown flashes and he's definitely having a moment right now but for every time he's flashed some power or some OBP skills, it seems to be followed by an injury or a hellacious cold streak. He needs consistent at bats to show what he can do, the additional problem to his injuries is that he's in a crowded outfield situation. But there's always been a good separation between his batting average and on base percentage, that's what makes him somewhat intriguing to me. I'm glad he's giving Hyde a reason to keep him in the lineup.
  17. Happy to keep giving Valaika at bats to see if he's for real or not. I don't think he is, odds are he isn't. But he's hot right now, keep him in the lineup.
  18. Hopefully so. But I think the only kind of dignity that he could hope to achieve is if Gary Sanchez somehow has a worse batting average. Which is what I'm hoping for.
  19. This sucks. It's a surefire way for whatever mojo this team had going to bring Davis back into the fold. It makes no sense on a number of levels. But if I'm a guy like DJ Stewart who gets at bats slashed in half because of the presence of Chris Davis, I'd probably be irate. That guy has something to prove and while Davis does too, Davis also has no shot in proving it. He's been trying to do it already SINCE 2017. Like whatever feel good mojo this team has had off Mountcastle, Akin and Kremer, it's been dashed by the dark lord of strikeouts and ineptitude, Chris Davis.
  20. I agree it's boring, but I also don't mind it too much. Makes me curious to see if whoever he's bringing in is going to get shelled and if it was the right move.
  21. Bundy would have to have an incredible 2021 across a full 162 game slate to command 5/100. But I really wouldn't want him back here, no matter the cost. He's gone to a weaker division, better ballpark for pitching...I'm not saying his success is due to those things this year but they couldn't hurt.
  22. That's kind of what I was alluding to, it's not one thing. But the thing they're picking on here doesn't happen in every game. If they want to shave the time of the game down, they need to focus on repeatable things that happen in each game, not just something that might happen a couple times a week. What's the pitch clock that they don't enforce, 20 seconds? Shave it down to 15 and enforce it. 2 minutes and 30 seconds between innings and half innings instead of 3 minutes. They won't do that because that eats into commercial time but if they REALLY wanted to make an impact they'd do something over the course of the entire game to shorten it. I've unfortunately watched Tony LaRussa games. Good manager, yet still obnoxious about matchups.
  23. I think if we can all agree on one thing other than Chris Davis, it might be that Bundy wasn't going to turn it around here. Similar to how Arrieta wasn't going to evolve into the dominant starter he became in Chicago while wearing an Orioles uniform. It's too early to tell what the return is on the Bundy trade, that's something we should be able to agree on, too. I feel like a lot of the times here, we throw our hands up and go, "UGH! Arrieta, how could we let him get away? Now Bundy? And Little Yaz? How can we keep whiffing on trades like this?!?!" But I'm pretty sure this is not a unique sports fan experience. That if you were to track down a diehard message board of the Colorado Rockies or some other offbeat team, they'd have similar sob stories of the guys that got away and how much better off they'd be if they didn't make those trades. Elias is fine. He's not going to "win" every trade. Some guys are going to get away and find success elsewhere, just like some guys are going to be sent here who''ll end up blossoming. Ultimately what matters is if the franchise is moving forward. Our system is better than what it was when he took over. He's started an international program that didn't exist before he arrived and it'll take a long time for some of those guys to surface. He's got a better plan than DD seemed to.
  24. Managers gotta manage. I bet Girardi felt like he put his stamp on the game by bringing Boone Logan in for one batter in the 9th and down 4 runs.
