  1. Ok sure. But I haven't seen anything to support that since he's been here.
  2. Tim Salmon was a stud. I agree with the above, very underrated.
  3. I don't get that vibe from Beckham. Give any who just graduated high school a few million and make him the number 1 pick in the draft and sure, there's a chance things could go to their head and they could have some issues. Yeah, he smoked some weed and got suspended. But like I said, give most any 18 year old (damn, Beckham got 6.15 million!!) a lot of money and tell them to act right, don't smoke weed and don't party and see what kind of reaction you get. That was 10 years ago. Haven't seen him act like a jerk, seems to be well liked by teammates. Don't hear any rumblings of him being a problem child. Seems like he's grown up. Now, his defense certainly isn't great. He can hit a little. I'm not super crazy about him so if the O's cut ties this year I'm not going to lose any sleep. But if he's OD SS 2019, I'm ok with it too. I'm hoping Grenier can learn how to hit and eventually take over as the Orioles SS someday. 2019 isn't going to mean much except getting the young kids playing time and figuring out what we have. If Beckham isn't blocking anyone in '19 who could be viewed as a future franchise SS, then I don't mind him being back.
  4. Me too. Good pickup about Beckham, thats what I was getting at. Beckham like he was last year for a month would be the best player in the game. Didn't expect that, didn't expect him to be so terrible like he was this year.
  5. I like Villar. Hope that this is really how he is for a whole season.
  6. No, no, no. Small sample sizes won't prohibit anyone to go off the rails and judge a trade after 30 seconds because they just didn't like it to begin with. Anything to fit a narrative of being right.
  7. Wasn't gonna happen here for him.
  8. Yeah, getting rid of bloated contracts is a terrible idea.
  9. Oh that National League! The thinking fans league! Will the manager or won't the manager pinch hit for the pitcher!?!?!?!?!?!?
  10. Why'd Gausman only go 5 with 80 pitches today?
  11. It'd be awesome if Nunez turns out to be a solid player for us.
  12. One thing I've been wondering lately is how are BABIP and other stats reflected NOT JUST ON THE COUNT but the number of pitches in the total at bat. The first time a batter reaches a 3-2 count, IMO, is vastly different than a 3-2 count after the batter has fouled off 3 pitches. IMO, the batter has the advantage. He's seen more. He's got more information to work with. By then, he's probably seen everything the pitcher has to offer and nothing should really be a surprise. I've seen plenty of information on stats in different counts but no one seems to talk about pitches per at bat and repeating counts (again, 3-2, fouling off consecutive pitches. A 1-2 count, fouling off pitches, working it even or even full...an at bat that spans 7 or 8 pitches).
  13. Inclined to agree with this. There are such things as loud outs, though. A deep fly to the warning track that maybe got hurt by the wind. A bullet to the third baseman where he doesn't have to move. A screaming grounder down the first base line.
  14. Well, those things might make a difference for him. But that fastball is still straight as an arrow. I think the NL will catch on and Gausman will regress to his norm.
  15. Right, but your opinion doesn't take into account why he's better all of a sudden. Gausman pitched like a 3 or 4 for good teams while he was here. Saying he's probably a #2 in the AL isn't based in any kind of reality. Again, his FIP. I know you won't talk about it because it goes against what you'd like to believe but his FIP isn't great. Fielding has nothing to do with it.
  16. After reading this, I've done a 180. You're right, it was a terrible dumb trade. He hasn't been gone that long but Gausman was routinely going 8 scoreless innings for the Orioles with an ERA significantly better than the rest of the starters. I mean...wow. How could I be so shortsighted. I am pretty sure Gausman was *this* good while he was here and now playing for a team in a weaker division in a weaker league with a better defense behind him has precisely nothing to do with why he's great. Thanks for clearing this up for me, I just don't know how I didn't recognize greatness when it was right here in Baltimore. Obviously if your OH handle is a tribute to the greatest hockey player ever, you are fully aware of what a greatness means and I am just a peon.
  17. Really, why? Just cause you said so? If we get a piece or two that's crucial to our rebuild it will not be a.......stupid trade. That takes into account getting international money for VVM and other prospects. I know you discredit that for whatever reason but it's important.
  18. Calm down. We need to see how the players we got panned out. Even so, Gausman went to a way easier division in an easier league with a better club that's got a better defense. It's certainly not a surprise that he's doing better, though I bet the Braves probably made some changes to his mechanics. One thing to note, K rate still isn't that high, it's actually lower than it was here. Not like he's whiffing 8 or 9 a start. and dominating. 17k's over 4 starts isn't great.
  19. Yeah, he's not stick skinny but he's also a generous 6'1. I remember seeing all those crazy workout videos he did when he was drafted and thinking that those all couldn't be good for someone who's pitching.
  20. I don't like watching him play, either. But the Orioles are invested in trying to get him to return to form. And that, for you posters who are pearl clutching at Davis playing, means...playing Davis. I know we'd all be real excited to see Trey Mancini at first base for some dumb reason but the Orioles want to see if Davis can get anywhere close to being a productive player again. As they should, they still owe him a lot of money for a lot of years. But let's not let logic get in the way of a good emotional rant about having to watch him flail away each night.
