Cuban OF Jordan Sánchez Signs
Orioles1954 replied to 86this's topic in O's Amateur Draft and International Signings
Remember when everyone lost their collective minds over Victor Victor Mesa? We've come a long way! -
It seems the offense really struggles against off speed pitching.

Last night's MASN broadcast was downright embarrassing
Orioles1954 replied to interloper's topic in Orioles Talk
Fenway JLC is a blowhard who completely whiffed everything about the Lamar Jackson negotiations. He is a JA fanboy who used softball questions and their mutual politics to score a job with the O’s. The 2-6 show takes very few calls because that duo can’t really handle them. -
To not deal from a position of strength while also not addressing multiple pitching needs would be the height of foolishness and a signal to the fan base that the Angelos family will always cry poor. The Baltimore Orioles play not to have the #1 farm system year in and out but to go on playoff runs. Eduardo Rodriguez or the like would go a long way in helping me with my JA trust issues.

Should the Orioles retire Mussina’s number?
Orioles1954 replied to SilentJames's topic in Orioles Talk
I guess I've mellowed over the years, but that will be put to the test when/if Adley & Gunnar hit the market. After wanting to burn down the warehouse after Mussina, Teixeira and Guerrero (to a lesser extent), I realized that as long as the Angelos surname runs the show that I should greatly temper my expectations. -
The Orioles have found their announcing team on TV/Radio

A question for those who remember 1989
Orioles1954 replied to Remember The Alomar's topic in Orioles Talk
I'm not a frequent poster but this thread is a wonderful trip to an unforgettable time in my life. I was 13 for the 1989 season. For myself, the backdrop of Opening Day 1989 helped set the tone for the season. My older brother who was/is not a baseball fan graciously took me to the game. It was 6 months after the horrors of 1988. It was the first year of the "ornithologically correct" bird (which I loved at the time). Boston was in town and was the prohibitive favorite in the A.L. East and several openly surmised that Roger Clemens would throw a no-hitter. It was also the spring after the Wade Boggs/Margo Adams affair and mocking chants of "Margo" cascaded down throughout the sold-out crowd. Joan Jett sang the national anthem and sat in the row behind my brother and I. President Bush threw out the first pitch and was booed...Egyptian dictator Hosni Mubarak was also in attendance. Vice President Gore's son Al Gore III was hit by a car after the game and almost died. SO MUCH HAPPENED outside of the game and the energy was intense. It was a back-and-forth game and when Ripken deposited Clemens' pitch into the left field bullpen I felt an instant connection to the gritty Birds. The game went extras and Worthington's hit just erased the horrible memory of 1988. Unforgettable. - Still remember openly breaking my parents' rules and listening to the West Coast ballgames on school nights - The June 1989 Yankees "fog" game was a travesty that seriously pissed me off then and now - The Mike Devereaux "foul pole" come back victory against the Angels - Native son Dave Johnson pitching a shutout during one of his first starts and then crying in the clubhouse after wards - Stanley Jefferson crushing a three-run homer against the Blue Jays in a pivotal later summer match-up. - John Miller introducing the incredibly cheesy and catchy "Why Not?" theme song over the radio for the first time - Phil Bradley's lead-off homer against Toronto only to be shutout the rest of the game. - That horrible Saturday afternoon when the Blue Jays finally crushed our dreams. Boy, I really needed this thread. Thanks so much! -
Jorge Lopez traded to Twins for pitching prospects (edit)

Our farm system is top heavy. Appears to be a quantity move to help the pipeline move along and stay consistent. -
It's a shame with Garceau. He is a Baltimore sports media icon and I hate seeing him end an otherwise incredible career this way. The play-by-play is just not there anymore. Newman is equally terrible on PBP....however, I can tolerate her on color and think she is pretty savvy and knowledgeable in that part of the broadcast.

Whatever happened to Elijah Green? Has his stock dropped? He could also be an underslot option.

Regarding MASN and cable packages. I have FIOS in Columbia, Howard County. I have the lowest level package at $50/month and you get all the basic channels and get to pick 5 premium channels. I dumped MASN last year as one of my 5 and have zero interest in adding it this year. As others have said, if they don't care then why should I?

What a snooze fest. Cure for insomnia.

What year did the 19 game intra-division schedule begin? This is actually the biggest and best of the rule changes. If NL batters have the DH now, they no longer have the inherent advantage so why not play every team? Actually makes interleague a touch more exciting and I'll get to see all of the NL's players now.

So desperate and will confuse the casual baseball fan. 14 teams? Really? We need a 162 game season for 14 teams?

Say goodbye to Jim Palmer and Kevin Brown for 2021
Orioles1954 replied to SteveA's topic in Orioles Talk
Brown really improved over the year. Arnold is OK, Garceau needs to retire and Palmer/McDonald are gold. As for Newman, she does OK on color but her PBP started horrible and sunk to the depths of Marianas Trench bad as the season progressed. They’ll probably keep her so I’ll just tune out whenever she’s on.
