  1. Meanwhile, the AL East is turning into the NL Central.
  2. It's only a matter of time before an automated strike zone is implemented. I used to be firmly against it, but as long as there's a live ump at the plate (which there has to be anyway). it can't happen soon enough IMO. I think you will see more offense once everybody adjusts to a consistent zone which will please MLB.
  3. Mancini. And Scotty McGregor. What's not to like?
  4. No doubt he'll relish his time in the bigs.
  5. Let me go out on a limb here and predict Motorhead will be back, so we should probably hold off starting the appreciation thread.
  6. Maybe Elias watched today's game and figured (correctly) that nothing Mayo could do would be any worse.
  7. Not the O's best performance tonight. Webb looks lost.
  8. If he gets into 15 games before getting sent back down, I would be surprised if he gets 10 PA. He only starts if there's another infield injury and if that happens, the O's have bigger problems.
  9. You also said you know his family well and are in contact with them several times a week. In fact, that is the context in which you placed your post. I read the post carefully and recognize the way you were using language protectively, but I also see that it didn't work as well as you might have intended. A lot of people don't read carefully and are more that ready to draw unwarranted connections, and think we are seeing a lot of that in this thread. BTW, I didn't start or sign on to the notion of Mayo becoming a "clubhouse cancer" which you perhaps think I did given your later response to me in this thread. The completely unfounded rumor that Mullins and Mountcastle were clubhouse cancers that circulated a couple of days ago are a perfect example of how easy it is to turn idle speculation into "reality".
  10. Since the beginning of the 2022 season, Rutchman, Henderson, Cowser, Westburg, Rodriguez and Ortiz have all successfully transitioned to contributing major league ballplayers. At the same time the O's have gone 248-178 and are on track to appear in their second consecutive postseason. If I were Mike Elias, that would be my response to all the complaining about how he handles minor league promotions.
  11. But is it true? Because if it is, Roy just broke a story. FWIW that wasn't my takeaway from reading his post carefully.
  12. I mostly agree with your post, but Livan Soto was called up to replace Westburg and he's a rookie.
  13. Really terrible news. Add me to the list of people hoping for his return before the postseason.
  14. I think there were rigid financial restrictions on Elias prior to the sale closing, and once Rubenstein became controlling partner they were considerably and explicitly relaxed.
  15. He plays sparingly and when he does play, he's put in positions where Hyde and Elias believe he is most likely to succeed. I'm surprised he's up again in 2024, but I guess Mateo's injury has forced their hand.
  16. We'll see. I see your point, but I kinda doubt it's a full 100% salary dump. There is a potential benifit to the O's to have Jimenez on the roster for the rest of 2024 - enough to where it's unreasonable to expect the White Sox to insure the entire downside.
  17. Jimenez's contract includes two team options for 2025 and 2026. It's stipulated that the team that owns the contract has to pay $3 million to decline that option. What's unclear to me at the moment is how much cash CWS is kicking in to move Jimenez. He's still owed salary for the remainder of the season.
  18. Unless the White Sox are kicking in more money than we currently know about, the O's are on the hook for Jimenez's $3 million buyout at a minimum. I don't think Elias spends that kind of money for a bench warmer.
  19. Hays just singled to tie it up in the 11th. I just love baseball.
  20. IIRC Huff went on Bubba the Love Sponge's radio show and called Baltimore a horses**t town as well. Memorable times.
  21. Yes according to The Tennesseean https://www.tennessean.com/story/sports/college/vanderbilt/2024/07/30/patrick-reilly-vanderbilt-baseball-baltimore-orioles-mlb-trade-deadline-enrique-bradfield/74611107007/ Vandy teammate of EBJ Jr. and Carter Young
  22. John Angelos didn't give him any money to get more before the season to begin. It's almost certain that Elias didn't have the authority to acquire anyone longer than for the 2024 season as well. The sale didn't close until one day before Opening Day. Under the circumstances, Elias did remarkably well.
