  1. This has got to be the worst ball/strike umpiring I have seen all year.
  2. You have 4 guys who are either hovering at .300 or below .300 OBP in this lineup plus a rookie who you're asking to also play one of the most demanding defensive positions. I understand expecting guys to bounce back but saying "no holes" when those are the same guys who cannot hit this year, I dont get. I would say, after Santander I wouldnt have much confidence that we would be scoring a ton of runs until it got back to the top. We need some upgrades from outside of the organization offensively. I have always been a "Hays guy" but I am at the point now where I think we probably need to explore an upgrade in the OF for his spot. Maybe that Cowser, maybe its outside the org, but I think we need to seriously look at upgrading. I also think that Santander, if hes around, has moved more into the DH role and expecting him to be the every day RF would certainly hurt our OF defense.
  3. The Orioles and Hyde have clearly put an every day value behind the perceived defensive value of Hays, Mateo, Urias, Odor, Mountcastle. I think you certainly need guys that can field the ball at an elite level, and you can get away with 1-2 guys who are elite but not as good offensively, but at some point you need guys that can field AND hit. You cant have four guys who have OBP less than .300. Odor will be gone, but there are a lot of decisions to be made with Hays, Mounty, Urias and Mateo moving into the offseason.
  4. Another announcer favorite recently in addition to the "______ has it all working today" to rationalize a bad pitcher dominating, is "Well this pitcher has been really hot lately, and even though the overall numbers dont look great, the last few starts he's really been figuring it out" Rich Hill Last 7 starts: W L ERA IP H R BB K WHIP 2 2 5.52 31.0 35 19 9 26 1.42
  5. Backup C, 2-3 infield spots, 1 outfield spot.. all need to be improved.. Maybe some of that comes from within the org (Vavra, Norby, Westburg, Ortiz) or guys bouncing back (Mounty, Hays), but I think its pretty clear that we need to bring in some offensive talent from out of the organization
  6. I believe its more Hyde's unwillingness to play young lefty hitters vs lefty pitchers. He's been benching them all year long.. Makes you wonder how we'll even be able to put together a lineup card in a few years with Henderson, Vavra, Stowers, Cowser, Kjerstad, Holliday all potentially in the mix
  7. Who couldve predicted that with the lineup today?
  8. Cant wait to hear how "Rich Hill has it all working today"
  9. Orioles OBP today outside of Santander .304, .294, .301, .278, .300, .273, .266, .269 On base percentage... not batting average.. Red Sox already up 1-0.. probably ball game with that garbage right there.
  10. I keep hearing announcers over and over during our games talking about how the opposing pitcher "has it all working" ... Maybe our offense just sucks? in this game alone… OBP: Mountcastle .293 Augilar .281 Urias .301 Hays .302 Mateo .275 We make other pitchers look like theyve got it all going. And with OBP like that, its no wonder we very rarely get long extended innings and manufactured runs and have so many empty innings and solo homeruns. Outside of Adley, Santander, Mullins and Gunnar we really have no one that works a count to any extent. Adrian Martinez for the A's who shut us down gave up 14 hits today. We need some MAJOR upgrades on O. 4-0 seems like 10-0 with our offense.
  11. - Sign Judge to 4/200 contract - Trade Package for top of rotation SP CF - Mullins C - Adley SS - Gunnar RF - Judge DH - Santander 1B - Mountcastle 3B - Urias LF - Cowser 2B - Westburg/Ortiz/Vavra/Norby (one or some of these would have to be traded) SP - Trade SP, Grayson, Wells, Bradish, Kremer - Means in June
  12. The blue jays offensively are just flat out more talented than the Orioles.
  13. Why do people keep saying this "isnt a real contender"? Its August 28 and the team is 1.5 games out. It is by definition a contender. Once youre in the playoffs anything can happen. They should be doing all they can to supplement this roster with minor league talent.
  14. At some point you would think that he would want to see his vision and work come to fruition. He has just gone through a 4 year rebuild of a lot of losing, and has done so with a lot of success. However, none of that is a guarantee. I doubt he wants to sit through another 4-5 years of the same and hope that it all works out.
  15. What does having Gunnar stay down until opening day change regarding an extra year of control?
  16. On July 29, 2012 the O's were 53-49. Not too far off where they stand today. They called up Manny on August 9 as a 20 year old to take over 3B and inject some life into the lineup. Gunnar is 21 and has had far superior MILB numbers (not that that means a ton). Its not out of the realm to expect them to bring him up. With a big need in the IF there's no excuse really. Gunnar can come up and take over 3B every day. Urias/Vavra/Odor can split 2B with Urias filling in at 3B and SS when needed as well. Nevin to AAA. Easy. Would be hard to understand them not bringing him up if things still stand as they do now in a week or so.
  17. I know the O's wont "rush up a prospect for a MLB need" but with Watkins going to the DL, and with Friday being Rodriguez normal day in the rotation, hoping that his debut is an option there. I don't put a ton of stock into the belief that debuts have to be in Baltimore, but it does seem like the Orioles like to do that. Has anyone heard what the plan is for SP on Friday?
  18. No idea if Hyde is the answer or not. But its crazy to me that anyone can try to come to that conclusion with the rosters that hes had the last three seasons. Earl Weaver could not win with this roster.
  19. I cant tell if this is a parody post or not. Only thing I can say is- I hope it is. Hays is 24 Years old, will be turning 25 next year, and has EARNED a major league salary. Mountcastle should probably start the year in AAA for service time, but no reason why he shouldnt be up as soon as that date passes, and I am cool with him on the OD roster as well if he crushes spring training as well. I see absolutely zero benefit in the outfield rotation you are talking about.

    Santander

Santander has been a pleasant surprise. I'm glad they didnt give up on him in AAA. I hope that for the rest of 2019 they give Sisco, Stewart (when healthy) and Santander every opportunity to play. With Mountcastle mashing in Norfolk as well 2020 may have some fun young pieces to follow!
