  1. To me, this is the epitome of what Frobby brings to the board. I found this really useful, and this is the type of research that brings me back four times a day (three times more than the better half would prefer). Appreciate what you do. Especially now that you are retired!
  2. Brooks Robinson robbing Lee May, Game 1, 1970 World Series. Moe mows down 11, Game 1, 1966 World Series. Okay, so I am old as dirt. Get off my damn lawn.
  3. This is the from the Department of Old Fuddy Duddy. I really enjoyed the moment in the video when Jorge was informed of the news. Must have been the allergies, but my eyes watered at his speech. I understand the realities of trade deadlines, and maximizing value, but I will always be happy for that moment. Weepy moment over, please carry on.
  4. Appreciate your service, good luck with retirement, and keep your observations coming. I particularly enjoy what you offer on the Minors thread.
  5. I have always been a little frosted at Mussina signing with the Yankees. But as usual, I appreciate Frobby's analysis, which I always find to be thorough and balanced, and that is valuable. I am reconsidering my thoughts about Mussina, not that I expect the world to stop and take notice. Another reason why these message boards and the posters are so valuable. Sorry for the ramble.
  6. What I don't know - who urinated in Cody's cornflakes? What I do know - Chuck works his derriere off providing summaries which I enjoy every day. I appreciate the effort. What I don't know - how to set up a Twitter account. What I do know - my life hasn't ended.
  7. I blame you, Tony. Was supposed to watch the triplets this afternoon, instead loved reading the Dyar Miller SABR biography, and down the rabbit hole I descended. Learned much about Dyar from SABR, learned much about better husbanding skills from my wife. Educational afternoon, all around.
  8. Bobmc, I have never met you, but I am a fellow Floridian - Melbourne Beach.  I just wanted to let you know how wonderful it was of you and your wife to make the trip to see Weams.  Michael meant a lot to my family, but I can't imagine what it meant to Michael to see you.  You done good.

  9. I just want to let you know how much the love you extended to Weams and D. means, as an example for all of us.  It was so good of you to make the trip to visit them.  That's special, special friendship, and I am sure that he will never, ever, forget that visit.  Just want to say I admire what you have done.  As Weams and D have made our world better, through your kindness, you so much made their world better.  Kudos, and thank you.  I am sorry if this message is disjointed, but today was tough.

  10. So, Mr. Tate is now the sole survivor from the Zach Britton trade?
  11. Sorry - wasn't discussing his career, which was very successful. This is along the lines of what I remember (1987 article, which, lacking computer skills, I am unable to properly post). I am totally off topic, and apologize. TORONTO -- He has been called a flake, a jerk, a disruptive influence, a malcontent and an insensitive loner. But that's only April through August. In September, Doyle Alexander is a pitcher. Period. That's all the Detroit Tigers know him as. So what if his less-than-warm personality has caused problems in other places in other seasons. This is September, the Tigers are in a heated pennant race with the Toronto Blue Jays, and Alexander is 8-0 with a 1.40 ERA since arriving from Atlanta a month ago. If Alexander's people skills are lacking, the Tigers haven't noticed. Because all that matters now is winning, everyone is getting along just fine with Alexander.
  12. I know I am dating myself, but was there anything likeable about Doyle Alexander? Asking for a friend.

  14. Here is my sophisticated analysis, utilizing advanced metrics, where and if applicable. Wow! Just wow! Carry on.
  15. This will veer off course, so I apologize in advance. This site, Tony and Weams have meant so much to me. I will be the 402nd person in this thread to say that I spend time every day learning about our prospects and suspects, and their effort (and Luke's) just can be underestimated. It has been articulated much better than I what they have done. But the personal decency, kindness and caring that this gentleman has extended to my family remains foremost in my thoughts. I met Tony and Weams at an Orioles Hangout many moons ago (Zach Britton was actually the starter, for the second game of the double header, for temporal context). My wife and I had the opportunity to talk to Tony over a frosty beverage (or 6) before the game, and to learn about what he went through to establish this site was fascinating. Two years and autistic triplets later, Weams, Tony and Orioles Hangout have done wonders for my family. I will spare the details, but my boys have been able to experience baseball at Camden Yards and Tampa, because these gentlemen care. Roy Firestone has been another person I've met, and I am in awe in how a man so busy is so caring. I am sorry for the digression, but this site has been a lifeline. I have utmost respect for Tony, I am not in his shoes, and the man has earned everything he wants to decide. Bless him, bless Weams, bless Roy. This is off course, so back to Zach Pop, and his future as a piece of the bullpen.
  16. It is a testament to how the regular season has gone for the parent club, that the first thing I look for in the morning is your summary. What a wonderful effort you have made, and from where I sit, most appreciated. You done good.
  17. Am I still waiting for my fifth cup of coffee to kick in, or is it really the case that Cam Bishop, Matthias Dietz and Blaine Knight, in a combined 24 decisions for Frederick so far, have 1 win?
  18. Also, can't forget the immortal John Stephens, who pitched for the Orioles in 2002. Wonder if he is still available?
  19. Knew I could count on Mr. Weams!  Also a very good man.

  20. As long as I am on my Goodfellas rant, love Jump into the Fire.  Nilsson was underrated, in my book.  Now, back to my 5-year-old triplets.  Love this thread, and your contributions!  Many good memories!

There's a great old video of Jump Into The Fire. Man and woman riding a motorcycle.

Also a great T Rex Bang a Gong video with the motorcycle.  Your music taste and thread brings back so many good memories.  Just started viewing.  Keep up the good work - much, much appreciated

Good to hear the positive feedback! Sometimes it feels like I just drone on and on in the music threads. Like *tap tap tap* Is this thing on?

  21. Hi, Roy.  I placed an opening bid on a Ripken bat - it may have been the gold one.  At age 57, with 5-rear-old triplets, my short term memory lasts about as long as some of our recent Orioles starters' efforts.

  22. Hi, Roy.  Great items, as always, great cause, as always. I'll open the bidding on the Palmer jersey, for reasons you will understand.

  23. What are you looking for, in terms of the final two items (especially the Palmer jersey, in light of the autism)? (assuming you are still offering)..

Regardless, Roy, I hope you and yours have had a good, wonderful holiday season.

    Best regards,

    Richard
