Ortiz is 6 months older. I am guessing he was Rule 5 eligible and Westburg wasn't. Unless you want to push someone off our 40 man roster or lose Ortiz it makes sense for Ortiz to be the first add and for Westburg to wait.
Stowers is in AAA because he isn't great at defense and isn't a better hitter than Santander or our DH options. Eve Rosenbaum had a good explanation of this the other day. Now, you could make an argument to trade Stowers or trade someone to make room for Stowers, but for now he doesn't really have a role.
I completely get it, it’s just a wild turn of events. This time last year Ortiz was a level below both. I was also a little shocked that Westburg wasn’t on 40 man. All the roster adjustments/manipulations aren’t my forte. Why would he not have been eligible for Rule 5? MiLB service time?

As to Stowers, it’s a matter of an infielder getting hurt, so he is not needed. Nothing astonishing about it. Westburg vs. Ortiz would be a tougher choice, but with Ortiz on the 40-man he probably gets the nod.
Not the move, just in general. If you had told me this time last year Ortiz was up and Westburg & Stowers weren’t, I wouldn’t have believed you.

It can be done. The key will be Grayson, he needs to keep them close so there's still a chance when they get into Chicago's bullpen. Probably need 2-3 decent innings from Watkins then Bautista to close. Tough but not impossible.
Grayson is going to be on point tomorrow.

Sorry Tangent - back to the Os working Cease into retirement tomorrow. He’s going down.

Hunter was on campus today. Hope Cooley can bury that hatchet. Gtown needs to keep the local boys home to get back to where they want to be.
I’d like nothing more for the talent to stay in MD/DC. Blows my mind why local college don’t run game on the rest of the country. Remember UMBCs run in NCAA? Jordan Lyles…DM stud.

He’s a mommas boy. Was shocked he went so far, but Howard had his ear.

Had no idea about that beef.
I understand DeMatha is still good. Georgetown is irrelevant.
New coach this year after an interim coach last year. Down year for DM standards (still ranked top 25 USA Today at points in season). DeMatha created the WCAC power conference. St. John’s, Gonzaga, PVI, O’Connell would be noting if Stags didn’t put WCAC on map and stir the competitive spirit in the DMV.
41 WCAC titles / 6 National Championships/ 3 Hall of Famers / 6 boys in NBA currently
And counting. We’ll be aight.

Agreed. No shot whatsoever. Zero, zilch, nada. Baseball is very easy to predict, and we just can’t win this one.
Also, my Hoyas have no chance at getting Hunter Dickinson in the transfer portal.
DeMatha boys seldom go to GTown. Big beef back in day between Wooten & Thompson (Carroll grad). Maybe that’s all done now. Hoskins & Freeman are only two I can think of ever to go there and they didn’t play for Wooten. GTown was a big no no for the Stags.

Have a feeling if/when Ortiz comes up it’s gonna be tough to send him down. Considered me astonished if Ortiz is getting ABs in MLB while Stowers and Westburg are sitting in AAA.

Remember that time the Os beat Verlander, Price, Scherzer? If you scared, say you scared. All good. But don’t bet against your squad.

My first two thoughts on this guy were:
1. where the heck did this guy come from, I thought I knew the Os system fairly well.(have since learned he was a Lopez trade pick up)
and
2. how the heck does he make the baseball move like that.
Very very curious how his season unfolds.

Tradition is wrong.
Go read The Book.
Adley should be hitting second.
I didn’t start reading the Book until a few weeks ago but when I was a kid I dabbled with Sega World Series Baseball ‘94 and did quite well with Detroit Tigers lineup of:
1. Fielder
2. Tettleton
3. Fryman
4. Gibson
5. Deer
6. Phillips
7. Trammel
8. Whitaker
9. Davis
My pops said I was a fool but in my mind it made all the sense in the world. I’ll concede Fielder leading off might be off, but he did hit 83 HR for me (for a few seasons lol). I’d keep full season stats myself on paper and when it dawned on me the 1 & 2 spots got more ABs, Fielder became lead off no questions asked.

It’s more like 70-72%. It varies a little depending on the overall run scoring environment. In a low scoring environment, the break-even percentage goes down, in a high scoring era it goes up a bit.
Guess I have some HW to do

The point that it’s easier to go down to stab the ball is an important one. It’s easier and faster to move your arm down, yet it’s somehow counterintuitive.
I tell my kids all the time “baseball is hard…near impossible, you need to take advantage of anything you possibly can, gravity is free”

The defense as a whole, to include Adley's framing, has been a step down from what we saw last season.
This is true. Good teams get better as they go and I expect that to happen with their talent, but yes - early showings are very disappointing for a heralded defensive team.

Looks like Emmett really studied his Tom Emanski videos.
Wasn’t much of an inside kid watching videos, but have spent the better part of my life on a baseball field.
Had to google Tom Emanski lol

There’s no guarantee that you can ever catch a short up. There’s no sure fire coaching method. Nothing. It’s all luck. That IF was really fast today. Hard dirt. Today Mountcastle went 0-3, he might go 6/10 the next 10. It’s just baseball.
Gibson should’ve put the ball in his pocket. Mateo maid a really tough play and so did Gunnar. Crap happens. We lost today because we went 1-10 with RISP.
Actually there is a sure fire way to teach it. Most guys will put the glove down and bring glove up with with the ball. This is incorrect. As Ted Williams taught us a long time ago in “The Science of hitting” the batter must match the decent angle of the ball and have a slight upper cut to have the highest % chance at making solid contact. The same thing applies to picking a ball. You need to keep your glove very low and then GO DOWN on the ball to match the angle of the bounced ball. It’s a misnomer that you are supposed to be soft with the ball and “give” & come up with the ball - just like hitting you need to glove the hop THROUGh the ball mimicking the angle the bounce is likely to produce. This is where 10k reps come in to lay so you can judge the spin of the batted or thrown ball to best mimic the angle the bounce will produce depending on side, top, or back spin.

100% incorrect. Catching a short hop is equivalent to catching a ball at your chest. In between hops are a different story….

I haven’t been enamored with his D at first, but I see steady improvement. I think he is average-ish right now but will turn into an above average 1B. Agree with RZN, his throws to 2b could stand to be improved.

Hard to see the ball but it looked like it cleared the fence with plenty to spare.
It hit the very top of the Educational Systems Billboard.

Remember @DrungoHazewood dropping Knowledge on what % success rates makes sense to run. Think it was ~85% if I remover correctly. Havnt made it that far in “The Book” yet.

Very limited options there. Bautista had pitched 2 days in a row, Cano had gotten 5 outs yesterday on 25 pitches before pitching the 9th today. I can’t blame Hyde for using Gillaspie but it sure didn’t work out.
Someone pointed out in game thread the mistake came last night when he was inserted in a 3R game. That’s when he should have used someone besides Bautista.

4. Dropping fly balls in the outfield. Seems like the ball this year is both juiced and really slippery. Have seen some other teams OFers drop balls as well. In all my life I can’t remember seeing so many MLBers drop balls in the outfield
