1.97 pop time on Basallo gunning down a runner at 2nd.

Would like to see 1.8 but that will play!  :) Darn good for the 18y/o.  Going to see him play FrI & Sat.  Super excited to get eyes on him.

He sounds like a solid player offensively and he hit with power with wood bats on the Cape which is always a good sign.   I just think they Orioles will go in a different direction.    Shaw is a lot like Norby.   Probably too much like Norby.

I completely agree.  I just think he will be a sneaky good pick in the lower part of round 1.

Listed at 5'11".  From the context I've seen (which admittedly is limited), that seems a couple inches generous.  Seems to have solid speed.  How's his defense?

Google-fu brought back this article.  Sounds like a competitor!

Matt Shaw is an offensive superstar. His defense has questions, but he’s working to erase them. | Terrapin Sports Central

He’s average speed for a pro, but he gets some SBs.  His baseball IQ gets him some extra bases.  The D isn’t great.  His arm is not super strong, doesn’t have incredible range, but makes the average play.  He will have to hit and hit some more to be an impact MLBer but, that’s what he does.

OK, give me a hint.  Where is your original post.  There are 11 pages here.  I will read it if I can find it.

Who do you think was a good FA that did not get signed?

Sorry - didn’t realize there were 11 pages was responding to notifications.   The massive contracts from the  DeGroms, Verlanders, Boegarts, etc. sckew the average.

By my count* there were 15 contracts given out above $25MM (total value) to players ages 31 y/o or older.  Of those 15 are some pretty big names.

    Hard to say.

Most of the main Union guys are vets, are they going to look out for the younger guys or not?  It was interesting they killed the International draft.

I think they have to.  Guys 31+ are just not going to consistently get a good contract. If they don’t make some good money years 24-29 they miss the boat.

  6. FA, service time, & service time manipulation will be a huge point of contention at next CBA.  If the Owners/GMs are skewing towards younger/cheaper players then the union needs to figure a way to get younger guys, 40 man guys, & MiLB players paid better.  Going Uber cheap and working the system isn’t a good look.  Especially when there is talent at the lower levels that could be showcased for everyone’s gain.

With that said, the talent is at its peak @24-30 y/o right when, the talent hits FA market.  I think the FA deals are going to be there for only the greats.  Making sure you have a guys 27-30 y/o season for the players that debuted at 20/21/22 is where the money will be spent.  I don’t think the top spending clubs will be missing out on those deals.   The trend might be a year or two, or three but the spenders will catch on and still have an advantage.

I would speculate that the Orioles felt some pressure from the league to add salary because of the grumbling that was starting to build last year over their successful tanking strategy. And that McCann and Frazier may have been the otherwise head-scratching result of that pressure.

    This thought crossed my mind.

I can’t wait until we as a people don’t get offended by every little thing. I can only imagine what a guy that seems to be a really likeable, nice, Hispanic(every Latin American friend I have LOVES to be called Latinx) with a skin color that would be deemed black could have done to be racist.

Call one of my DR, PR, Nica, Guate, or El Salvadorean buds “LatinX” and be prepared to take a quick jab to nose.

I was at the game, visiting with @justDin the upper deck directly behind home plate and we had a great view of that play.  I was stunned when I realized Mateo wasn’t stopping at 3B.  The relay play wasn’t crisp and Mateo’s speed forced the issue.  And lest we forget, Mateo was only on 1B because EdRod panicked on his swinging bunt because of his speed.  Speed kills!

At first I thought he was hobbling home.  On replay realized he was on first and simply just started to run out of gas a little.

So far this year in the AL:

    AL East: 65-37, .637

    AL Rest: 84-113, .426

If you remove the division games (which by definition include .500 divisional record)

    AL East: 51-23, .689

The Orioles are one of several teams benefitting from the more balanced schedule.

How did you find record by division?
