Thanks for posting.  Good read (for BR) and interesting.   I think my point stands.  It’s baseball, some good performances some bad.  But overall a lot more good than bad.  Seems like writer wanted to hate on WBC

-Made point as a negative that Ichiro had a down year because he went from 15hr to 9 lol.  That year destroyed his career ISO!

    - The 2009 pitchers (I think) that all were “down” were all, lousy pitchers.  Minus Santana (havnt looked to see if that was after his np hitter/blown arm game - imagine it was)

-Almost all the “down” next season players were Old Dudes at end of career

If you want to get better…..play games.  And understand how to take care of your body.

Rays GM Erik Neander was on The Athletic's podcast the other day, and there the WBC spin was "how great was that", and was that the secret alchemy for 13-0?

Crazy that there are more billionaires per capita in Montana than any other state.

Always heard how awesome it is.

Moderately tax friendly.  Beautiful.  Cheap land.  No sales or Inheritance tax.  Seems like a pretty astute decision to set up shop out there.

Do we know they didn't try to sign Aaron Judge last offseason?

I've not heard a hint of a whisper from anywhere about them trying to sign anyone long term for years.  Sure it's theoretically possible.

They aren't going to go out and say to the public that they aren't going to even make an attempt.

What difference does it make if they do try if in the end they fail?  How is that better?

Did you feel better when you found out they tried to sign Machado long term and wouldn't pony up enough to make it happen?

Other teams, even teams with a similar market size, are making it happen.

I remember rolling up to yard the day they announced Jones extensions. One of best days in my 42 year Os fandom.  How sad is that?  Well, maybe the Delmon Young hit and the Cal jog.

Agreed. We won’t know if it had anything to do with anything unless he comes out and talks about it.

My take on the whole thing is….it’s baseball. Sometimes things go your way, sometimes they don’t.  These guys are professionals and they have busted their tails their entire lives to get to where they are.  They are getting in the needed work to put themselves in a situation to be successful at all times.   I’d argue that the only way to really get better(at any level) is to play games, and play the best competition possible.  I don’t buy for a minute getting work in during a ST game is better than getting work in in a highly competitive environment against the best possible opponent.  We've all seen the BP All-star & the amazing bullpen session.  playing games makes you better.  not pfps.

I think it's a mediocre attempt at "relating" to the people. Most of the ones I've seen looks terrible.

I love throw backs and such, so I'm not against switching up. I just find it to be a lame way to sell more merchandise while acting like you're doing something to connect.

That’s fair.  I’ll agree that the vast majority of them don’t look very good.  I liked the Nats & Sox.  The Padres city jersey is a work of art.  Best uni in sports right now in my humble opinion.  Really like the Marlins city hat.  Some of them are complete garbage.

Saying 5 years is extremely deceiving.

He has one season over 22 starts. He has one season where he eclipsed 112 innings.

3.7 FIP isn’t an ace. It’s good to very good but it’s not an ace. He has a career ERA+ of 109 and he’s coming off his worse FIP and ERA+ season since 2019.

He is also is coming off his worst str% in 3 years, although it was still above average (you mentioned control, which is the only reason I mention this)

Hes not an ace. He has never been an ace and it’s unlikely he will ever be one. He can still be a very good pitcher though but no need to pretend he’s something that he’s not.

I didn’t say he was.  I said he’s pitching like one now and having logged 4.09 years of service time at “very good” levels at such a young  + his recant performance suggested  he might become one.
