Everyone is different. That should be obvious.

Some are doing fine, others aren’t. That is how the history of the WBC has played out.

Some guys need a certain routine. Some maybe don’t work as hard when their team isn’t watching.

Some can go do the HR derby and it’s fine. Others it messes with their swing.

Not sure why that’s “confusing” to you.  Again, that should be obvious. Everyone handles things differently.

Now, maybe Kremer was just sucked and the WBC has nothing to do with it but it’s reasonable to think, especially since it has happened to plenty of players in the past, that the WBC has something to do with it.

    You didn’t answer the questions.

These guys don’t have tailored programs?  Guys get to the MLB and perform but don’t “work hard when team isn’t looking”?

    Playing inferior competition is better?

2 nice arms for DC. See what they can do. This is a “get right” game for Kremer. Again, another WBC guy starting slow. While he did a good job in his outing for Israel, he still likely didn’t get the ST he needed to get, so being behind on things early isn’t that surprising.

Hopefully he starts to show signs of last year tonight.

You don’t think these guys have incredibly specific programs?  Would it be preferable to pitch to minor leaguers in a non-competitive environment?  Pablo Lopez seems to be doing aight.

Well the definition of an ace certainly isn’t, be a solid guy for most of your career and then have a few great starts to begin a season.

He turned 27 last month and his stuff has  improved steadily.  I’d say he’s fairly projectable having already logged 5 years MLB by age 26 at a 3.7 FIP. Increased velocity and increased control.

Lopez was a fine target. I touted getting him for over a year.

But he became overrated on this site. He’s a good pitcher but he’s not an ace, a #1 and probably not a #2, at least not a very good #2.  He’s a borderline 2/3 guy who was close to free agency.

Not sure the definition of Ace, but he leads MLB in Ks, has a 1.73 era, 2.71 FIP, and a.808 WHIP.  He has not been an “ace” in the past but sure is pitching like one this year beginning with the WBC.  Will he sustain it, I dunno but MN must be giddy right now with what they got even having given up an 11 WAR player.

He may have been a 2 or 3 before, but he would be a 1 for us, and he's pitching like a  1 for the Twins. I think he was worth the gamble and was our best chance to fill that role.

He was a stud in WBC.  Havnt checked on him recently but he was sitting 1-2mph faster than last years avg during the tournament.  I really wish he was on the roster.

Sure, but the Orioles have absolutely no track record of successfully extending players, much less starting pitchers. I don't think we succeed in getting him to agree to this in Baltimore, but we'll never know.

Ever been to Minneapolis in April?  JK - it’s an amazing town.  But the winters, early spring, and late fall age not for the faint of heart.  They do support the hall of their teams, however.

  8. It took Colton about 20 games in AAA last year to get going.

was looking to see if he a slow start last year but scorched A, then AA, before stumbling in Norfolk a bit.

Plus, he can afford to have 20-pitch inning in relief but that doesn't work as a starter or he'll never get into that 6th inning very often. Hall had a 69% strike rate in relief last year with the Orioles. He has a 60% strike rate in his three starts this year and a 63% as a starter last year AAA.

Trust me, I get why people want to wait on Hall because of the repertoire, but he's 24-year old (turns 25 in Sept) and he's pitched 5 innings or more in just 4 of his 21 AAA starts.

I know I'd rather have him in the pen than Gillaspie a with Perez not as sharp this year, it makes sense to have that 3rd lefty (4th when Akin returns) out there.

Wonder when they will pull the trigger on this.  I still like the old school approach of bringing a youngster up and having them pitch out of pen to learn how to get MLBers out and then make an adjustment year two if the performance dictates it.  It both helps the team in the short term and helps the player long term.  I think it’s short sighted to think once you turn a guy into a RP he has to remain there for the rest of his career.

I dig the UCLA color scheme.  A lot of people hate on this one, I kind of like it and I hate all things Boston.  Havn’t heard on what yellow and baby blue have to do with bean town.  Don’t think I care much either tbh lol.

  11. I imagine the pitching will improve.  Means comes back, GRod will continue to improve, and they HAVE to make a deal for a SP at the deadline.  Burnes, GRod, & Means through the playoffs baby!   As crazy as it sounds, I think the offense could actually improve.  These guys are young and just about to step into their prime.  Gunnar, Santander and Urias  havn’t produced much yet.   Mullins is just getting started.  I think Moutcastle, Adley, & Hays are about who they are right now.  Frazier can be upgraded.  Mateo is the wild card.  There are offensive weapons waiting in the wings in AAA to step in and produce if someone falls off a cliff.

The scary thing is Gunnar and Santander haven't gotten going yet. Mountcastle has actually been pretty bad aside from the one huge game.

I love that we have at least a couple consistent good AB/high OBP guys now. That's how you get big innings and break games open.

Still, feels like we can't keep playing from behind. Would be nice if the pitchers could step up once in a while or we will be stuck on .500.

Mountcastle is averaging a HR every 11 ABs and is on pace for a 60 HR season.  You have some extremely high standards.  He has been melting the ball all season.

First, I want to see Stowers deposit a few over the wall at Norfolk.   3 homers last year with the Orioles.  None in spring training.   No extra base hits so far with Norfolk.   I'd like to see him get that power stroke going again.

Very little power in 24 AaA ABs so far.  Wonder if he’s dealing with something we aren’t privy to.

If you look at the post from @Spy Foxin the Gunnar thread, you will see support for your position.  I’d still rather have Gunnar have this problem than the opposite one of swinging at too many terrible pitches.   I’m confident he’ll adjust and find the right balance.

The second you swing at a pitch 1 inch out of the zone the pitcher counters with throwing it 2'' out of the zone. If you swing at the pitch 2'' out of the zone then you open up other weapons for the pitcher to use.  It's frustrating to see looking strike outs on such close calls, and I do concede with 2 strikes you need to swing at a hittable pitch 1/2ball off plate - a ball in play will always be more prouctive than a K over a large sample size.  I think he is playing the long game and the approach will pay dividends over a 500+ AB season and into future seasons.  He will get some cement mixers and mistakes thrown in their occasionally and he will hit them.  If he was missing at hittable pitches AND expanding the zone, I'd be worried.  I'm not worried that he will figure it out.  His skillset and his approach are elite.
