Absolutely, if anyone is banged up we should be playing healthy guys, we have the depth to do so. Santander missed a couple games earlier due to some kind of vague back issue. If Santander or Hays is at all banged up, I agree they should go on IL. We have plenty of depth with guys ready to step in. Stowers may be the logical choice if we don't want to make any 40 man moves.

Stowers isnt crushing the ball right now, but it would be nice to see him get his shot especially if both Hays & Tony are not 100%.

Frazier and his 8 million contract say otherwise.

Guess we are about to find out.  My feeling was they’d kick him to the curb when the time was right.  Man I hope they don’t disappoint me.  Would be a gut punch to have Frazier blocking The kids while he is playing poorly. Especially while team is on a heater.   Add gas to the fire!!

I do like that outfield. Pushes Santander to the bench when Adley is DH, but right now Santander isn't providing much. Question is does he merit a long leash. He was second on the team last year in OPS and led the team in HR. We thought Santander DH would be the approach this year with Stowers starting in RF. Maybe they are just waiting to pull the trigger on Cowser.

I think he’s a little banged up.  Doesn’t look like he’s moving too well.  And seems like he is laboring when he swings.  Maybe an IL stint would do him some good.

Cowser has a clear path opening for him in the MLB, same with Westburg with Frazier's 628 OPS.

Its only a matter of weeks before Elias makes the call, if not sooner for both at this point.

I’d jump right out of my chair if Westburg & Cowser came up together and replaced Vavra & Frazier.  How fun would that lineup be to watch every night.  DH & 2B OPS would get boosted immediately

Agreed. It was awful execution and anyone who has played the game would tell you that wrapping your fingers around the bat is not the right way to bunt.

Hays is kind or who he is at this point. He's a gamer who is going to give you 100%, but he's injury/dinged up prone that typically affects his on field production for stretches at a time, sometimes of his own doing.

My biggest concern this year is how far his fielding has fallen over last season and the start of this one. He's -0.6 dWAR and -3 OOA through just 23 games in the outfield. All three aspects of jump are below average with his -1.2 ft/sec reaction time being the worse of his career. He's not getting slower foot speed wise, he's just not reaction very well and his burst speed has fallen 1.1 ft/sec since 2020.

It's really hard to start a below average defensive outfielder in left field in Camden Yards. He's off to a nice start offensively (.883 OPS, .378 WOBA) but he would be better served in RF if his jumps and ft covered/sec are going to be below average. We know his arm plays there.

Terrin Vavra leads the team in DH appearances (ridiculous BTW) so it makes some sense to send to move Hays to RF, Santander to DH and bring up Cowser to play LF. Vavra can be optioned.

That would be fantastic.  Hays RF, Mullins CF, Cowser LF would be an upgraded defensive set up and way more offense pushing Santander to to DH & Vavra to Norfolk. Cowser is starting to look like a man amongst boys at AAA and think he can have a very positive impact in short time.

The question I have is at what point do we move him up in the lineup? Is the 9th spot in the order really where we want our best hitter?

63 PA……he moves up when he does this for 180+AB.  I’m excited but guarded.  He’s never had success like this so let him stay comfortable where he is and see how it plays out.  No need to put undo pressure on him and stifle what he has going.

Wrapped may be a poor description by me.   Where his top hand was holding the bat.  I don’t think the way he held the bat was wrong.  But he didn’t get the barrel on the ball.  It was poor technique in terms of getting the right part of the bat on the ball.

Pros screw up the bunt so often because it wasn’t a skill that got them to the show = no practice.  Continues to blow my mind the senseless injuries that occur on bunts due to poor prep & execution.

Bunt = “thumbs up” technique to both deaden bat & make Hand as soft as possible for potential impact.  Hand in front/wrapped on bat = month off with broken finger.

It hit right where the top finger was wrapped around the bat. Hit part bat, part finger.  Poor bunt attempt by Hays.

At no point during a bunt attempt should any finger be wrapped around the bat. First day 101 stuff.  It’s insane a MLB Athlete (who knows this) would F up and miss time, mess with winning mojo, and hurt their bottom line by missing time.  Continue to shake my head at the MLB bunt IL fools.

We really need a RH RF bat. Could that be Westburg?  I’m thinking it can be. There’s no reason that Vavra should be starting against LHP. Also, this brings up the point that Westburg is needed, maybe just to play for Gunnar against LHP.

IMO, our bench needs to be tinkered with. Westburg needs to be playing OF and 3B/2B in AAA.

    Hays > Mayo
