Hyde's replacement. I hope the O's don't see this. O's new player-coach announced next week. Imagine the savings!
I know this is tongue in cheek, but I don’t see how we could justify bringing Hyde back He’s already on an expiring contract.

Is Colton Cowser worth being a bad team?
I’ve seen several people make this comment and it’s pretty disingenuous. Cowser or Lawlar have nothing to do with whether this is a good or bad team. Drafting Lawlar doesn’t make us a better team any more than Cowser. Obviously Elias sees the benefit in under slot for the 1st round. He, and our scouts, have a much better feel for signability and career progression than any of the armchair scouts on this site.

Gotta love the folks that flame out over the draft. Watch a few videos and read a few mock drafts and know more than everyone.
That one guy lost his mind over Austin Martin last year.

Carson Williams sounds interesting. No interest in the guy playing football at Clemson. NIL makes the college path easier for football players at big time schools.

To piggyback on that, it's not like we just took a guy without any upside. And it's not like we stretched way hard to pick someone who was projected at the late first round/early second round.
If we're going by mock drafts (really, that's all a lot of us have to go on) he was going to be picked anywhere from 10-15th, most likely. So we reached a little bit, but not like the Royals with Frank Mozzarella.
Look Frankie Cheesesticks may end up the best player in this draft

Nothing cuts down on wear and tear like taking a season off for surgery.
Get it out of the way early. They all break. Better to do it in the minors than when your clock starts.

Two best HS SS are available. Could be interesting

Has a .558 OPS through 34 PA's in July to lower his season OPS to .724. Not exactly what you want to see from a 24 year old in AA. Im thinking when Ortiz comes back from his injury he should get the bulk of the work at SS. Grenier's bat just isnt heating up.
Ortiz is out for the year. Torn labrum.
Sounds like Grenier’s glove could make him a utility player. Can’t be worse than Valaika and Wilkerson and Franco.

K's at 28% so far in July after K'ing near 38% in June, so there is some improvement there.
He walks a lot too. I wonder if his Ks are more swinging or looking. If he’s trying to establish the strike zone that’s much better than just not being able to put the bat on the ball.
-
76 Ks in 185 ABs is more than a problem. No way he’ll be able to hit ML pitching. I’m guessing he’s just selling out for HRs in most ABs.

Top of the video board? That’s quite a shot.
How could you tell? I don’t think I ever saw the ball.

I heard Matt Blood give an interview and it was pretty apparent that they don’t think he’s ready defensively in the infield.
That’s a shame. The bat looks like he can play at this level

What does Jones have to do?

I hope it’s Davis or Cowser, assuming Lieter is gone.

Wieters was no Casey Kotchman. That’s for sure.
I think this is the kind of move the Orioles have to make to stay competitive down the line. They have to take chances. Small market clubs don’t compete for FA at the highest level. Plus it eliminates the incentive to keep him in the minors.
But his agent probably wants to see what the new CBA looks like before committing to a long term deal.

I’d hope to see Ortiz return soon. Off to a promising start this year. But I don’t see any news about him

Isn’t that what they did with Kjersted?
I thought they negotiated with him before drafting him to see if he would take less than slot. Is that incorrect?
Gentlemen’s agreement. It’s not binding. MLB wouldn’t allow that.

If they’ve negotiated any pre-draft deals, I wonder if that means they are required to take that particular player if he’s available, or they are free to draft someone else if there’s a surprise?
I doubt MLB would allow any agreement that pre-commits a team to a certain selection.

These are both just great lists!! Looks like a fun project to do.
I’d swap Wei-Yin Chen for Guthrie on my first team. And how can you leave Koji off the first team.
I don’t think I appreciated just how dominant Britton was in 2016. Makes me want to scream at Buck all over again.

I wouldn’t count on any of them being imminent.

Yeah I don’t think he’s bored either. More likely he’s hitting a wall and having to adjust to playing a full baseball season again at a high level.
I’d still like to see him called up to AAA this year. The fact that he hasn’t been makes me think Elias won’t be calling him up to BAL until this time next year.

He’s not exactly killing at A+, but the lack of walks is nice. If he can continue to have outings like tonight, you’d hope he sees AA this year.

Well I attempted to delete that comment immediately after posting it. I’m sorry I was unsuccessful.
but I stand by what I say every time Hyde does this and I have neither need nor interest in restating it.
Hyde leaves his starters in too long. Sometimes it works out ok. Most of the time it doesn’t.
Haha I’m just having a go at you. I don’t care.
He leaves his starters in too long, no doubt. But he has 5 innings to cover for a win. You have to squeeze a few extra outs from your SP with a tired bullpen. It’s not like he has a lot of reliable arms out there.

2021 Draft Thread

I think with NIL, and potentially playing QB at Clemson, there’s a good chance it’s more lucrative for him to play football.
