The play at the plate on the ITP "homer".  As you reported, the ball skipped past Adley.  Did Grenier throw home?

What an awesome team name. Rubber Ducks. Gotta love minor league baseball.

I think that is what Elias wants. Arizona is further ahead with no signs of life. My guess (and hope I am wrong) he is looking at trading Santander, Means & even Mancini.

The truth is this team is about to be sold but won’t happen until Peter passes. My guess is the new ownership group is already lined up & involves Ripken. That’s the move toward competitiveness, not actual results imo.

Yeah I could see them being sold some time soon.

I don’t think he’s actively trying to lose games but the focus is on the development of young arms. No reason to call Wells or Bradish up to take a beating in their debut. Let Eshelman get smacked around but don’t alter the development plan of a young pitcher.

I think the two on the Tides rosters would be Bradish or Wells.

And no I don't think calling either up would do them any harm.

I really doubt Elias is playing service clock issues with either of these guys.

I think he's prioritizing not starting any service clocks that he possibly avoid.

Who’s service clock is he avoiding? I think it’s just trying to preserve some confidence for Lowther since he’s been hit so hard at the ML level.

What a buzzkill. Is there really now one else? Eshelman has a 6.41 ERA at Norfolk and 1.42 WHIP.

Eshelman is brutal. The last game I saw last year before Covid was Eshelman getting crushed by the Blue Jays. Try to look away tonight. It’s gonna be ugly

I'm in the distinct minority on this board about calling up Rutschman and others right now because I believe there is value in minor league development that others don't agree with but Leyba has 600+ AB's in the minors. I'd like to see him called up and given everyday at bats for a month to see what he can do.

Yeah I like the idea of taking advantage of a hitter’s hot streak. Let the ML team take get the benefit and improve a player’s confidence.

I think he’s over the 0-1000 he had in Arizona

I understand off days every Monday make it tricky, but I would think guys like Hall and Rodriguez should be given priority to work on a regular schedule, even though they would have to get an extra day if their turn falls on Monday.

Trying to manage innings this year.

I don't think that they think it is that long a transition.

Anyway they are changing the MLB ball on a yearly basis.

It really makes Alonzo’s comments about the reasoning behind the ball changes make sense. Gotta suppress those FA classes.

I hate to break it to you but MLB doesn't care very much about what is best for the players in the minors.

Presumably they care about young players being able to make the adjustment to MLB (after all they do get paid less). It would be like the GLeague using basketball goals that were 9’10”, then acting surprised that guys can’t shoot when the get to the NBA.

Just saw Rocker the first five innings I've ever seen him (with Ben calling color).    This Super Regionals weekend is 2nd anniversary of his Duke perfecto from 2019.

Looks like fastball, breaking ball mostly - he touched 96 on ESPN gun a couple times in the 4th after leadoff walk, but those were only 95/96's I remember seeing.

Ben said his slider moves a bit like a curveball (not sure if that means he throws very high arm slot ala Bradish giving slider spin some vertical component also).

Huge guy, as one might guess for kid of NFL lineman.   Rocker got the Friday Game 1 just like last weekend, figure Leiter sure tomorrow.

During 5th as typing this post, East Carolina got first hit on groundball single.   He got 2 outs then walked a guy to put himself in 2-on, 2-out jam against 9th place hitter.   By pitch it goes:

    85 slider - strike one

77 slider - strike two   (Ben:  he goes to best pitch when in trouble, back to back breaking balls to get to 0-2).

86 slider - grounded to 3rd to escape jam.

East Carolina guy pitching well so 1-0 game entering bottom 5th.    Rocker 7 K/2 BB and the 1-hit in first five innings.

Holy crap I didn’t realize he was Tracy Rocker’s son.

They don’t need anyone to eat innings now.

Give his innings to Kremer or Lowther.

Kremer needs to start the conversion to RP. He could be tough in 1-2 innings spurts. Lowther doesn’t have the command to get away with his mediocre stuff at the ML level in any capacity.
