  1. I hope so (how sad is that to say) but if Hyder has any say it’ll be Nevin.
  2. Nothing will top the love affair for Tyler Nevin. All signs pointing that direction.
  3. It seems a lot of teams have SP injuries early. I don’t know that our group is any worse than other teams. I’m fairly confident with SP. Grayson showed enough at the end of last year for me to feel comfortable with him at the top. It’s not like he’s the reverse Wells… Irvin is a #5 guy. He’s gonna need the offense to pick him up. Perez is concerning for the fact they will give him an even longer leash now. But he’s easy to hide. At best he’s the 5th guy in the pen. Im thinking our offense will have to carry us early. Hope Hyder doesn’t get stuck playing the same underperforming vets every day.
  4. RIP. Very complicated figure. Seemed to want to do right by people and I’d say we should remember his finer moments.
  5. It makes sense to get the extra year. It doesn’t make sense to proclaim Holliday has a chance to make the team, unprompted, and then send him to Norfolk after he has a great spring. Just an unforced error.
  6. What a ridiculous comment. Ain’t no player in MLB anything close to an 8 game swing over 30 games. It seems like OH is inundated with Orioles Twitter at times.
  7. The players in charge of the MLBPA won’t accept a cap. If that cap is tied into revenue, and a certain amount is required to be spent, would all players hold the same objections? If teams like Baltimore and Oakland are required to spend at least 100M that opens up more options for “middle class” players.
  8. 1. No. It takes away the stated reason for Elias to keep him down. You know in May Elias wants to be able to say he needs more time at 2B, while Holliday continues to play SS. 2. Part time. See above. He’ll still play a lot of 2B. 3. Stowers and Kjerstad are the only must plays. Haskin in CF is preferred but not necessary. Someone needs to be given a 1B glove, but that will take away Mike’s reasoning for keeping Kjerstad down next spring.
  9. I saw some of it. Not sure why it’s being addressed now, but better late than never. Will still need to wait for the next contract negotiations. I don’t know how you address some of these issues, other than a salary floor and cap. Of course, the big earners will oppose the cap.
  10. Or you could’ve brought him up late last summer with the same results.
  11. Honestly none of the options. I’d keep him down until May/June to ensure that my plan to get an extra year isn’t foiled by him still winning ROY. As a sports writer, I’d vote him in as ROY anyway to spite the system. As a union member, I’d start holding my union leadership accountable for why they didn’t fix this loophole, and directed their focus more on making sure the Scherzer’s of the world can earn every last dollar.
  12. I’ve heard that mentioned here before. I guess it is hard for me to accept that the one job you assume the manager has is now done by Sigbot. I wonder if their formula is overly focused on a win today versus balancing it with development of young players. Hard to imagine an analytical approach that says play OHearn, Mateo, etc over Cowser.
  13. Hyder is not exactly a master of finding ABs for promising prospects. I expect Cowser to languish on the bench and lose his hot hand.
  14. But that’s the whole stupid point. There was never any reason to pay Mateo what he’s making. You wanna offer him arbitration, fine but trade him. I don’t understand how Elias constructs a roster, but he does get the benefit of the doubt.
  15. It seems like Mateo does just enough when he’s on the cut line. Come May he’ll be chasing every low and away slider. I guess use him in April while he’s hot.
  16. There has to be something in between the two offers. I would think. I can fully understand not wanting to play for the Yankees or on the east coast. But if he told Boras that, there has to be someone on the west coast willing to offer more than 2/62.
  17. Should the reigning Cy Young winner have to settle for a 2 year deal?
  18. Sure it’s ultimately the client’s decision, but his other clients see the poor/risky advice and may start to rethink their partnerships.
  19. It depends on what Boras sold him. I assume these guys out a lot of stock into what an agent tells them they can get, especially someone as experienced as Boras.
  20. I’m sure there’s many factors, but effort seems to coincide with the rise in injuries. There were still lots of injuries before last year.
  21. If the Yankees really did offer him 150 so late in the offseason, and he signed for 62, that has to be a loss. How can he improve on the year he had last year to be more marketable next offseason?
  22. The only spring training stat I know this year is that Stowers has 7 HR. I’m just waiting for games to count.
  23. It seems pretty obvious that what is causing injuries is max velocity effort on most pitches.
  24. Big L for Snell and Boras. Hopefully, some of our young guys see that Boras isn’t always the way to a big payday. Might as well sign that extension now Gunnar. Don’t leave yourself like Snell.
