I just don't get why folks can't leave it at "he's an exciting young player to watch with a great arm and he looks like a real hit from the International side."

I think the team decides on the gameplan and the pitcher and catcher work together to execute it. I think the days of the catcher calling a game by feel is long gone. I also think stolen bases are pretty overrated and don't actually have that big an impact on scoring.

Willing to and wanted to are not the same thing. Some of us understand that you have to give up quality to get quality. You aren't getting multiple years of a quality price controlled pitcher without giving up quality in return.
