He was running hard to get to the ball but it certainly looked to me like he had time to make the play. I'm not suggesting it was a super easy play for either player.
Silly thing to argue about really but yea, if the outfielder can get to the ball he should call off the infielder.
He was there.
He had to pull up and slide to not interfere with the play.
How was he not going to get there?
I will admit I didn't think Santander wouldn't have called him off...what with the mask and all.
The announcers are even assuming Santander will make the play.
I'm sorry, you're right, its way easier to go out on the ball and catch in like that instead of coming in on the ball. Santander also wasn't so close to the play that he had to slide to keep from complicating the play.
I watched the over the shoulder play on replay and while it was a great play I can't help but think he should have let Santander make the attempt. But he, he made the catch so it's cool.
I'm overrating the O'Day contract?
Would you agree that a hurt O'Day had basically no value when traded?
According to Cot's Contracts the Braves paid O'Day a rounding error short of 11M.
The O's traded Matusz to the same Braves in 2016. The Braves assumed the 3M left on Matusz's contract and the O's sent a second round pick with him for a couple of 16th round non-prospects.
Looking at that simple math, the Braves thought 3M was worth a low second round pick. So if the O's got 11M in salary relief from those same Braves...
ERod was a top 100 prospect when he was with the O's.
Davies wasn't some unpolished nobody in low A ball.
Gausman and Bundy were representational products of their draft position. Matusz had some early success as a starter. Eduardo Rodriguez has had a nice career as has Zach Davies.
That's enough to move them out of dismal.
