  1. I'd give the O's a better that zero chance if I thought Elias would lift a finger to help a surprising team squeak into the playoffs. Like the Marlins GM did last year.
  2. Of course their is a scenario, one in which they increase the number of teams that make the playoff while simultaneously shortening the season.
  3. I'd be interested in seeing how they came up with that number. It does seem very low.
  4. I do think they have as good a chance as the Rockies.
  5. I hope the O's don't bother boxing themselves into a situation in which they confine bullpen usage to set roles.
  6. I'd actually be interested in seeing if a player with an accurate but exceeding weak infield arm would ever get called for an error when a hitter beats the throw to first. My guess is they wouldn't.
  7. Damon's arm was a lot better than mine throwing left handed. I'd have a hard time throwing a ball out of a closet left handed.
  8. fWAR had him over 5 in 2015. I don't like using rWAR for pitchers. Cole was a very good pitcher for the Pirates who had, at most, one down season. I'll agree that he was better in Houston, but I think saying he was much better is a slight to what he did in Pittsburgh.
  9. In five season in Pitt Cole had a FIP of 3.33 or lower in four of them. I would not say he was "much better" in Houston.
  10. Pretty sure he's referring to infield arms. Mountcastle's arm in the outfield is clearly superior to someone like Damon, even with the small sample size we've seen.
  11. Exactly, they did their due diligence. If anything they waited too long to move him off the left side of the diamond.
  12. What a world we live in when 6.1 innings with 6 K's 2 hits and 2 walks is "beasting". So what would you call the four runs over 4.1 innings against KC? He was fine. He was pretty much the same as the rest of the rotation in 2014. The O's had five starters with an ERA+ between 108 and 122. They had four starters with a rWAR between 1.9 and 2.8. Norris was one of them.
  13. Crazy, career ERA+ of 98 and he played 14 years.
  14. To date Tommy Hunter has had a 13 year career in the majors.
  15. Nothing like some wild pitches and passed balls to speed a game along.
  16. Should be entertaining with Severino behind the plate.
  17. Defense peaks early. It's unlikely that he makes positive progress at 26.
  18. Pretty much everyone is speculating that he has a reason beyond getting his degree which is causing him to miss camp.
  19. Everyone that said anything allowed that it was a good thing for him to get a degree if he had a legitimate reason for not playing beyond getting his degree. We all accepted that our knowledge was incomplete. I don't think any of us thought he just decided to blow off his professional debut to get his degree.
  20. I'm encouraged that he didn't just start throwing money around.
