  1. Hope for 6-3 The realist says 5-4 Settle for 4-5 Anything less and it’s a disappointment Anything more and I’m ecstatic
  2. You obviously don’t follow Adley Rutschmans Big Tits on Twitter then
  3. He should have played last night…Vavra isn’t great against lefties. Good to see Odor out of the lineup…but honestly I’ve forgotten Nevin was even still on the active roster.
  4. To be fair, I don’t think anyone here wants to trade prospects for rentals. Guys like Lopez and Skubal have some control left. Even Snell would be a great target with just one year of control left IMO. Plus, we’re beginning to see a potential logjam of prospects. Henderson, Westburg, Prieto, Norby, Mayo, and Urias can’t all be on the team in 2024. So maybe move a couple not named Henderson for some controllable pitching? Same goes with the outfield…moving guys like Stowers or Haskin or even Kjerstad isn’t going to make or break the future, especially if you’re receiving someone under control for 2-3 or more years that is proven at the major league level. It’s not there isn’t room to add payroll so that’s a non factor right now
  5. Stewart reached AAA at 24, Vientos is there at 22. Plus, he can back up 3B, LF, and 1B if necessary…though admittedly it sounds like he should not be the first choice for any of those positions. Dont get me wrong, I’m not like clamoring for the O’s to land him. I just think he’d be a solid return for Mancini and Tate and I’d prefer him over some of the pitching that the Mets have to offer.
  6. Right handed DJ Stewart seems harsh, but I get what you’re saying. Vientos is much younger than Stewart at this point and hasn’t been disproven to be a major league level player like Stewart has. Plus, if you’re going to have a right handed hitter on the team, you’d like one with the type of power that Vientos has. Obviously a pure DH is never the goal but the O’s have been doing fine this year with Mancini in that role. Other teams have players in that role and are able to stay balanced throughout the year and stay competitive. Who else do we have that can fill that role? Just saying, I think he’d be a good return for a rental and a decent bull pen arm.
  7. Vavra is a lefty so he won’t be platooning with Odor but other than that, this would be a great place to be after the deadline. I also like the idea of going after Vientos since the future DH doesn’t seem to be in the current system.
  8. I don’t mind if one or two bullpen guys are traded but I hope they don’t blow it up. It’s been nice having a decent chance to hold a lead.
  9. You gotta cross that bridge when you get there. If the Orioles are legitimate contenders then the payroll can get pretty high as we’ve seen during the Buck years. If the Orioles want sustained success then they’ll also have to operate similarly to the Rays…meaning you trade the expensive guys once they get expensive.
  10. He was probably just happy that anyone at all signed him at the time
  11. Considering Santander has more control and costs less then it doesn’t make sense as a one for one trade. Something’s gotta be coming back with Snell. While I get the rationale for the Hall scenario, I think it’s still best to hold your best prospects. Hopefully the Orioles will be competitive for many years and grabbing a guy who can help for 2022, probably not an actual contending year by the end, and one or two years following that seems short sighted. It’s hard pass as written on both accounts and not even really close IMO.
  12. It’s kinda funny how Mancini is in a weird gray area between paramount for the success of the Orioles playoff chances and being pretty much valueless on the market. Right now, I say keep him assuming the offers aren’t great. If the offers are great then why say no? Of course, that depends on where the record is at the deadline. This is the 2022 Orioles we’re talking about and an 8-game losing streak following the 8-game winning streak is still on the table.
  13. I agree with you in the sense that it was always going to be a hard sell to fans to trade Mancini. But to trade away a productive fan favorite in the middle of a hypothetical chase for the playoffs after a long stretch of losing years is a totally different thing. I still think it’s good to trade him unless they’re solidly in the chas. If they’re just a couple games out from the wild card at the deadline then it seems like a self defeating move. And there is absolutely no certainty that any of the young guys can match Mancini's production.
  14. It was already going to be a PR hit moving Trey even if they’re bottom dwellers just because he’s a fan favorite. Imagine how fans would react if he was traded AND they’re a few games from a wild card spot. I think it’d have to be a pretty good trade and I have a hard time believing Trey has any more value to anyone else than he would to the Orioles, assuming they don’t start losing a lot between now and the trade deadline.
  15. Mancini and Santander aren’t going to get anyone more of a better candidate for the 2023 rotation than guys like Bradish or Kremer. They’re gonna need to make a move in free agency for that unless we’re talking about moving Hays or Mullins…which is unlikely I feel.
  16. I don’t really think being buyers is the greatest idea in the world but if Elias decided to not be sellers either, that would be interesting. Mancini would walk at the end of the year, but let’s be honest…he isn’t bringing much back that’s going to add much to one of the best farm systems in baseball. Same goes for Santander. Only exception could be Lopez, who is probably having an outlier year, but I wouldn’t be upset if they chose to keep him. It’s not like he’s a free agent this off-season. Let’s also keep in mind that Tyler Wells will be out of the rotation at some point and the rest of the rotation is playing above their heads. It’s fun, but let’s not make any assumptions about how things will go when we’re finishing up our schedule vs the AL East.
  17. I’d love to land Pepiot but I don’t think Santander or Mancini are enough.
  18. I’ll go with a cool 69 win prediction. It’s been fun, but I doubt they have another winning month in them. They’ve got a lot going against them from this point… bullpen likely won’t stay this good Established players will be traded Our only good starter, Wells, is on an innings limit and probably past halfway there. The rest of the rotation is about as “meh” as “meh” can be A lot more games VS the AL East…despite what Dave Roberts thinks, this division is very obviously the best in baseball
  19. IMO when a player is having a crazy outlier year like Lopez is then you’ve got to cash in on it…especially when it’s something as volatile as relief pitching. Lopez is one of the best in the game right now and if someone is willing to give up something good for him I think you gotta take that deal. The Yankees won’t want Santander since he can’t go to Toronto. Santanders value is going to be highly limited because of that and it makes him worth keeping around probably. Even if it were a NL team, they’d have significantly less competition regarding other teams interested. This is a key part of this whole discussion. I doubt the Orioles really go for it at any point until the team is sold. You could make an argument that next off season is a good time to start supplementing free agent pieces but we all know that’s not going to happen. Unfortunately they are probably going to be kicking the can down the road for a few more years…so a lot of these players won’t be on the next play off team. Maybe in Rutschmans arbitration years
  20. I think Mayo and Kjsterstad is a little more than dreaming. They’re 2024+ pieces, maybe September call ups next year and if they play well and stay healthy.

    Jorge Mateo

Considering these comments from Kopech last night “Definitely not trying to hit a guy with two strikes and two outs. Especially a guy who's not doing too much at the plate. Situation kind of escalated, but then it settled back in." I was thrilled to see Mateo have a good game today. I’d love to see him turn into a long term option, even as a 9 hitter. Unfortunately the way he’s been hitting isn’t even good enough for that but I’m still holding out hope. A future IF of 2B Westburg, SS Mateo, 3B Henderson could be fun…but he does have to do better
  22. So, anyone wanna guess which position player will be pitching the 9th today?
  23. I guess I meant selling low in context to last year. A sub .700 OPS is not the type of player that a team gives up on of their better prospects for, even if it’s above average for the position.
