I have a question for people who use the MLB app.  There used to be a premium option for like 20 bucks where you could get ad-free videos and access to the radio broadcasts.  It’s stupid to have to watch a 15 second ad every time you want to watch an 18 second video.  I see that there’s an option for MLB Audio for $20 but it doesn’t mention anything about ad-free videos.  Does anyone subscribe to MLB Audio and does it include ad-free videos like previous years?

Hadn’t noticed till now, but I have audio and yes there are no ads on any of the highlight videos for any team.

Means got out of the inning, but have someone warming anyway. Maybe Means start the 5th, but yank him with the first guy on base. I would prefer to just bring in a long guy to start the inning clean.

Why? Means is the best overall pitcher and hasn’t really been laboring. You’d rather a less talented long man come in and trust the bullpen for 5 innings?

    A few musings:

    - Does Hyde or Elias make the in-game calls?

    - We aren’t trying to win

    - Maybe Hyde’s job is to be the Chris Davis bouncer?

    - We aren’t trying to win

    - The Yankees are in our head

    - We aren’t trying to win

There’s a big difference between not spending money/aggressively promoting prospects to put a competitive team on the field (which the Orioles are doing) vs actively and intentionally making bad decisions in game in an attempt to lose said game (which the Orioles are NOT doing)

Wouldn't have minded leaving him out there and have him work out of the jam himself. Young pitchers need to face some adversity and need to learn to get out of tough situations.

Agreed. Lopez wasn’t getting hit. Walk to judge is fine.

They're playing the hell out of that James Earl Jones speech from Field of Dreams.  And as much as I love it, I don't want to get tired of it.

MLB network going crazy with in between pitch/batter split screen commercials. Don’t think Buck was a fan when he was doing color yesterday.

Even though the Orioles won that challenge, that kind of stuff is really not why replay was put into the game.

100% I hate the “off the bag was there a millisecond of separation” challenges. Something like that if they can’t tell within 30-60seconds the call should stand

No but there's this idea that guys leave Baltimore and go on to do better elsewhere.  It's true.

Gausman wasn't great.  That's why we traded him for bad bargaining chips and Atlanta dumped him quickly, too.  SF might have been able to figure him out but I wouldn't bet on it.

We’ve gotten back at least one interesting piece in Zimmerman. If he ends up as a back of the rotation guy for the next 3 or so years that trade is worth it.

  8. I also went 66-70, the early schedule is a little more friendly and there will be a lot of fresh arms filtered in and out, and I think the team will be competitive again in august and September.

Side note: May 11th through July doesn’t look like much fun, except the privilege of booing the Astros for a few days.

Yep, I’m not sure if the organization has ever made a mistake(s) as large as not trading Manny or Britton after 2016.

I get it, they thought they could win in 2017 but that was always a poor decision.

Trading those 2 at the peak of their value could have netted us a tremendous return.  Those are the types of trade that catapult your organization for years if you make the right moves.

Saying Manny should have been traded after 2016 takes a bit of hindsight, I think, while most of us were calling for Brittons trade at that time.

Manny was a player to build around.

You use this same philosophy every time you discuss 1st round picks, but all 1:1s aren't the same. Especially when you take into consideration the huge busts of mostly high schoolers that bring that WAR average down.

Anything less than a career with multiple All-Star berths for Rutschman would be a hug disappointment for everyone. If he ends up Wieters, I'll say it, he would rate as a bust as a 1:1 pick in my opinion.

Saying all that, we're way to early to start getting concerned over his professional start due to the circumstances. If he puts up a dud this year at Bowie then we can start talking Wieters.

High school #1 overalls have a higher average WAR than College. Of those that signed, 22 HSers for an avg of 29.3 and 21.2 median, 24 College signees for an avg of 17.9 and median of 19.9.

However, and to your point, there are 9 HS kids who had WAR’s under 10 and only 7 from College. The HS average is buoyed by ARod, Griffey and Chipper, but even outside of them, 3 guys had WAR’s over 40 (no college draftees have that). Worth noting that Price, Cole and Strasburg all have a good chance of surpassing the 40WAR plateau.

    Bummer.

I am a fan of the 6:35 start time more for in-person attendance than watching on tv, especially in April when it can be quite cold when the sun goes down. This definitely lowers the chances of me going to a mid-week evening game in April. At least there are afternoon games on April 15th and 29th.

My guess is that with limited attendance this season, tv took priority.

I’m more likely to watch a whole game if it starts earlier but I guess less likely to watch the beginning. Was looking forward to early starts for in person as well.

There is a stretch from April 3rd through the 18th with only one scheduled off day assuming no rainouts. That could factor in the team going with a 14 man pitching staff to start the year.

Is there a covid allowance for 14 pitchers? I thought it was a 13 pitcher limit.

  13. I have loved seeing a team (mostly the Rays) put a 4th true outfielder or a 5th true infielder in for an at bat. It always seems like a way more ballsy move than the exaggerated shift.

I appreciate the spirit behind all these rule changes. It’s almost surprising that the MLB has identified the same problem most casual fans have and are attempting to find some fixes.

Disagree with you here. I think the cash rule also applies to them trying to make more money as well.  If you have a $20 bill in your pocket that is all you can spend. A card doesn’t limit your spending. People have to be disciplined on their own not to spend. Cash automatically limits you.

I don’t think the cash rule is an attempt to make more money. I could be off, with an organization of this size, but you have to pay to process credit cards.

I think throughout the pandemic people and companies have made decisions that aren’t backed up by science because it makes sense to them. We know by now that it’s unlikely to contract COVID by touching a surface, but companies still spend inordinate amounts of time and money “sanitizing.” I’m sure it makes some people more comfortable.

  15. It's not like Mullins has no history of delivering some game power. I generally agree that he should be more of a platoon/part time player, but to cast him as a one-trick bunting pony does a disservice to his overall ability.

Last year Mullins was 4/3/3 (2b/3b/hr) in the XBH department, interesting to be that even.
