Comparing the 2020 and 2022 Orioles to date (both 25-35)
seak05 replied to Frobby's topic in Orioles Talk
I don't think Elias slow played Mountcastle (or at least not in the way you mean), I don't think Elias thought Mountcastle could play defense, and I don't think he's a fan of his offensive approach. As to Grayson, he was always starting the year at Triple A, going to each minor league level seems to be something that is important to Elias. -

I think you're more obsessed with service time manipulation then Elias is tbh. Granted Elias might be lying, but: he has heavily implied that Adley would have been on the OD roster if he hadn't been injured, he has said the plan is to have Hall up this year (and I don't think Hall is currently MLB ready), the plan was clearly to have Grayson up, and Elias has said he'll be in play for OD roster next year, Gunnar is the youngest player currently at Triple-A etc. I think it is eminently reasonable to expect all of those players plus Stowers and Westburg to feature in the beginning part of next years team (Gunnar probably last, bc he's the youngest, unless he torches Triple-A), and we will probably see several of them in the majors this year. -
I would think he's a prime candidate for the AFL to extend his season

This is not a great route (this isn't surprising he hasn't really played in to years), but he makes a sliding catch in the end
-
Turned on that one inside as a LH alright, for today at least he's looking pretty good (extremely small sample size )

In Roch’s blog this morning, he basically says Stowers will be in Toronto

Elias was asked about this on the MLB broadcast last night. He said they view both Gunnar and Jordan as SS and they'll both continue to play there. However as they don't know about the MLB roster makeup when they arrive, they want them to have positional flexibility...and that MLB is constantly shifting now anyways, so positions matter less. That said, he views Gunnar as a left side of the field player SS/3B, while Jordan they see as more 2b/SS/3B

I'm intrigued by Baumler sure, but no way I'd put a 20yo throwing 3ip at a time in low A over a guy who dominated at every level of the minors through Triple A. The number of pitching prospects who even make the minors is incredibly small, and level of competition matters

Lol he hit a homerun

Really tough opening night for Gunnar. Interested to see how he does against Small who is both very very good, and left handed (and much older then Gunnar)

Newman, being able to get people's names correct is just a baseline of decency and respect

I miss Brown

2022 early look top prospects
seak05 replied to DocJJ's topic in O's Amateur Draft and International Signings
Cam Collier isn't going to be the pick, but he was mentioned as Geoff Pontes' favorite (not best) prospect in the latest BA chat. He's 17 and currently playing in the Cape Cod league...I wonder if looking back on this draft, he's going to have been underrated (Gunnar by the way was his favorite MiLB player) -
Gunnar is the youngest player in triple-A by 9 months. As much as we talk about Adley and Grayson being slow-played, the Orioles have been very aggressive with Gunnar

If he can start a throwing progression in August, he’d still have to make rehab starts in September (this is true for every pitcher rehab in every org) before coming up. Is it really worth it for 1-2 mob starts? Or is it better to really make sure it heals properly and doesn’t linger, and just bring him back next year?

I don’t think substituting Andujar for Odor makes this club better offensively or defensively. Odor has a (very slightly) positive WAR, I don’t expect Andujar to match that. Maybe if he was willing to play in triple-A first, but he doesn’t seem interested. I do prefer Andujar to Nevin
-
Yes, grade 2 is like 3 months....before he could begin throwing
-
Any rehab start is going to included a progression. Keep in mind Means’ rehab last summer was 3 starts, so it’s not going to be 1 to 2
-
Yeah, it’s definitely something he’s struggled with. I’m just thinking it’s probably harder to improve in an area where you’re getting so few opportunities for repetitions.

A tear is a pretty easy diagnosis on an mri, it’s the degree that can get more complicated. This would make the most sense if you’re debating between treatment options aka if surgery is on the table, and you’re trying to decide between surgery and rest. If the treatment isn’t in question, you just go in in a few weeks and get another mri to determine healing.

I just wonder with lefty’s if he’s gotten so few reps it’s hard for him to improve

Tried to get greedy with Lopez and get another inning
