  1. I think at this point the Orioles have more good LH pitchers/prospects then RH ones
  2. I'd rather have McKenna up then Owings. I think Nevins is miscast as an OF, just like McKenna was being miscast as a pinch hitter
  3. And this is why having sent McKenna down is an issue. Also I have no clue why Owings is on the roster
  4. It's much harder to track, but I also would bet we see a lot more singles and doubles like Odor just hit (that would maybe previously have been singles) in LF this year, with the LF having to play deeper
  5. Statistically Odor has been a + defender. The not hitting isn't a surprise, but the poor defense to start the year was
  6. It has been cold at Camden Yards so far this year, I'll withhold final judgement until I see how it plays during the summer....but so far it just seems to extreme, and makes the park to biased in favor of left handed hitters
  7. Breaking, Ryan didn't swing at the first pitch! (he did swing at the second)
  8. What a sloppy inning. Lyles just misses the bag on a great play by Odor, and then Mountcastle hits the runner with a poor throw
  9. It might just be a SSS hot streak, but Gunnar is acting like a guy who has just had some things click, the game has slowed down, and as a result he has levelled-up.
  10. I'm not sure he's been coddled the last couple starts, as opposed to pulled because that's what will happen in the majors. For instance last night, if a pitcher is in the 5th inning and struggling, they're likely to be pulled at the major league level too. That said, I do think he needs to learn how to pitch out of trouble, go through a line-up three times, and throw 100 pitches...even if that isn't the best way to get norfolk the win that day/evening, as these are all things we're going to want him to do at the major league level.
  11. I haven’t seen a lot of reports on his defense at 1b, but most seem to indicate he’s perfectly fine in the field. Mountcastle though is a below avg defensive 1b, so regardless having Adley at first occasionally doesn’t seem like a big deal

    Drew Rom 2022

I'm wondering if the club is experiencing a covid outbreak
  13. I think dart throwing is the appropriate term. None of the guys we were able to sign or trade for were looked upon as real top players, or they wouldn't have been available. Now the last two classes? Yeah, I expect better...but don't think we'll see them in the majors for another 4+ years. They're 17 now. Given that it takes most players who even make the major leagues a few years to work through the minors, and that building through the draft/international signings requires a few years of drafts/signings...I think 5 years was always the realistic number in terms of the club becoming competitive. My expectations for this year were to see some of the young players establish themselves to be part of a contending/competitive team next year. If the Orioles are looking at another lost season next year, I will be frustrated.
  14. I think you're using to narrow a definition of "average". I think it's probably more fair to say exceptional players make it in 3-4 years (Soto and Franco are both supreme talents), anyone else - even "above average" is 5-7. I don't think the Orioles have signed any Franco or Soto's yet. And I would add that the average international FA signing doesn't even make the big leagues at all
  15. Rocker is apparently planning on throwing in one of the showcase leagues I think picking one of the first round pitchers who fell due to TJ surgery would be a good way to use one of the comp/2nd round picks
  16. Realistically, you're going to have to go get a player or two through free agency (and spend to keep some of your own players "home") for your lineup. But the Orioles aren't going to spend 200m, so most of the lineup will come from the organization. Twins didn't spend that money in free agnecy until they already had a lot of pieces in place.
  17. Attempted to put together a similar line-up for the Orioles in 2023 Mullins 13tth rd 2015 Hays 3rd rd 2016 Stowers 2nd rd 2019 Adley 1st rd 2019 Mountcastle 1st 2015 Ortiz* 4th rd 2019 Henderson 2019 2nd round Westburg compensatory 1st The lack of international FA really stands out, the 2017/18 drafts were pitching heavy at the top * would have put Vavra instead but technically he was drafted by Colorado, Adam Hall was another option
  18. Now obviously this isn't the lineup the Twin's roll-out every day, but check it out: Have to think this is Elias' basic goal, all homegrown players, and many of them pre-free agency
  19. I know you don't think Adley needs a "mentor" but someone who has been around the league, knows hitter tendencies, and has done what you're trying to do is always helpful. Same wat veteran pitchers can help new pitchers. Adley has never been a major league catcher before. Same as in any other job, having someone around who has done it, isn't a bad thing
  20. I'm thinking it might be a different batch of baseballs
