My money is on Akin being “in different shape physically”. Well, not that different from last year, I mean.

Lyles had a 85 ERA+ and -0.1 bWAR and he’s an 11 year vet. Not exactly screaming to be signed as a FA. Akin has had one full year as a ML starter and has a similar ceiling. His FIP was better than Lyles last year.

This thread should be renamed “Lopez is the closer”. Anyway, I’m hoping Wells is stretched out with the idea of him being in the rotation if he has success.

But people are complaining about a 4.73 ERA that Akin had. It was an overpay. Can you imagine them giving Akin a deal for $7mil?
