  1. Sentimentally I completely understand the thought that SS is Mateo’s with his play this year and his involvement in our turnaround. I guess my question would be is he part of our best team? Or do you move on and have Ortiz, Westburg and Gunnar in the infield (all 3 can play short) and then have Urias as your utility? I don’t know if any of us have that answer but I believe that is your highest upside IF.
  2. I disagree, we’ll kind of. Not that I don’t want this, but by looking at the lineups in Baltimore, and Hyde’s continued insistence on playing Odor, it would be silly to bring him up just to sit and play 1-2 games per week. Maybe Elias can pull a Billy Beane ala Moneyball and trade Odor to get the right guys in the lineup!
  3. The idea of Henderson at 3B, Ortiz at SS, Westburg at 2B is pretty sweet.
  4. I hope they spend both…Now is the time to fill out the roster with upgrades, and this is why you 1) bottom out payroll and 2) grow the farm. We finally have the resource flexibility to do business.
  5. So he is an upgrade over every player in the infield….can someone remind me again why he is not up?!? I have been the guy preaching patience and “stick with the plan”, but that was because I was confident he was coming up after the rookie deadline. My frustration level is growing by the day.
  6. I think if they don’t announce it soon (like within the hour) it’s not happening tonight.
  7. Certainly seems that way. I was sharing with a buddy last night that inserting Henderson into last nights lineup really makes it interesting. Really hoping it happens next week.
  8. First time physically seeing Kremer last night more than just random clips or reading stat lines. Feel like the 2 seam at 95 really plays up when he is effectively using cutter/change up. Made some good hitters very uncomfortable.
  9. I like the idea of signing a guy and trading for a guy. Both starters. The idea about Mullins headlining a deal for Lopez is interesting to me, and then as @Sports Guy mentioned awhile back signing a stopgap CF.
  10. It is certainly more than likely that our thought that Santander could get you Snell was probably far fetched.
  11. But honestly, do you really think he would spout off like this if he didn’t have 100% confidence he could deliver? I mean, I get the historical “Angelos sucks” angle, but why in the hell would he say this and put himself in jeopardy of looking like a fool when that is completely against his M.O. I don’t get it.
  12. This sure doesn’t seem like a GM that is worried about ownership putting restrictions on his plan. He’s either a huge idiot or he has complete confidence that he can do what he wants to do. And nothing about what he’s done over the past few years says he’s an idiot.
  13. I think it could also depend how he pitches during the rehab. If he starts right out on fire and sharp, they may see no reason not to do it.
  14. I use “shocked” just because of Elias pattern of behavior. Rehabs are ultra conservative, starting at much lower levels. I just think once that timing plays out, they are not bringing him up for 2 weeks. Now maybe if we are out of contention by that point it could change things. But I still don’t see it.
  15. I would be absolutely shocked if he pitched for the O’s this year. But I would also be happy to be wrong!
  16. I would hope that if they were to retain Lyles it would be that he is their #5 and they confidently have 4 starters who are better.
  17. Yeah reading the tea leaves this has to be the reason. Stowers up, Nevin down. Then even more roster flexibility for Hyde.
  18. Pretty sure this exact comment has been said for about a month and a half!
  19. I’m curious of the business side of this decision. If a team makes the playoffs by bringing a top prospect up, how much money would this need to be for playoff revenue to offset that extra year of control? Is it even close? My first thought would be no, just because that final year for the player would be super expensive, but I have no idea what playoff revenue looks like either.
  20. I listened to Elias yesterday on an in game radio interview. He talked up Gunnar in a lot of ways, finally saying “he is forcing us to have discussions”. But then he followed up with comments about completely developing a player of his value importance so that they help for the next decade. He said that is the most important factor. I took his comments to mean that Henderson is not coming up.
  21. Yeah this certainly feels like it would be done to get Nevin off the roster and bring up Stowers. If that were to happen Hyde would have some pretty dynamic lineup flexibility.
  22. The finish of his swing is a thing of beauty. But I kinda hate watching it because then I think he could be playing in Baltimore instead of Odor and it kills the buzz.
