  1. How is it misleading? He specifically uses the past tense when referring to the Yankees interest in Cease. "Yankees were also one of many teams that seriously pursued available White Sox star Dylan Cease." The Yankees were never going to give up the prospects Getz is asking for after already making a big trade earlier this offseason. There's no indication Getz is going to come down off his price this offseason. Signing Stroman doesn't mean they are all the way out (which I never said) but I don't see how it isn't a total longshot at this point.
  2. Yankees all but out on Cease according to Heyman. They never will put Spencer Jones on the table which was obvious to everyone except White Sox fans I guess. Getz better pray Cease has a great first half or else this was an awful way to start your tenure as GM.
  3. They need to pay Soto. I would find it extremely unlikely that they would sign Snell as well. They just paid Rodon too. Also doesn't seem anything like Cashman to trade more high value prospects after already doing so earlier this offseason. This isn't the Yankees of old.
  4. His value might match up for a player like Carson Whisenhut but it's highly unlikely any GM is motivated to make that kind of exchange. I would be absolutely floored if the Orioles traded for a 1-3 starting pitcher without including one of Mayo, Basallo or Kjerstad + more.
  5. Does he have a lot of value though? I think he's generally very overrated in all of these discussions. If he was as sought after as people say he should be then I guarantee he would've been traded by now. Same with Norby and maybe even Cowser to a lesser extent. You aren't meaningfully improving this team unless you add a prospect that is a level above those guys imo.
  6. Purely wishful thinking but it is kind of interesting that Angelos was speaking with Rubenstein on Wednesday and then this news drops the next day.
  7. But your examples are missing context. Voth was acquired for nothing to be a swingman type. Scott was acquired for multiple assets including a valuable draft pick to be a closer or set up man in the bullpen of a contending team. He failed at that last year and has succeeded at that this year. Voth succeeded at his role in 2022 and failed to in 2023. The players acquired for Scott haven't debuted yet but the FO was able to replace Scott in the meantime with Perez and Coulombe for nothing. It's just not a good example.
  8. Scott was a 0 bWAR player in 2022 and Bautista has been worth 2+ WAR over Scott since he was traded. If you are going to only include the good year of the player we lost and the bad year of the player we acquired you are going to come to the conclusions you want to come to.
  9. Santander is better than Cowser. And Hicks. Neither of them should be making a 26 man at his expense.
  10. By your metric of significance, Santander has had a significantly higher wRC+ than Mountcastle for the past two years. In fact AS has been top 40 in all of baseball over the past two years. I find this idea that Santander is being "overrated" kinda laughable. The people saying that have been trying to trade him for years now. The fact is, it's highly unlikely anyone in the Os system could've come close to matching the offensive production from Santander this year.
  11. But...why? That doesn't make sense. Adley and then Gunnar/Holliday at SS/3B is a way better constructed team. Adley has already shown he's a 5+ fWAR catcher which is remarkably valuable. It seems like you are operating under the assumption that this year's Adley and Witt is what you can pencil in for the foreseeable future which is far from a sure thing. Adley is having a bit of a "down" year but is still a top 3 catcher in the game. Adley actually still has a higher OPS+, wOBA, wRC+ than Witt this year which is impressive for a catcher. The real difference between the two this year has come defensively, which is a surprise and not likely to stick, and Witt's baserunning which is undoubtedly incredible.
  12. Sure but only because the O's aren't all that selective when it comes to picking the HOF. Winning one playoff series in 8 years (and his whole career), not winning a single ALCS game, being somewhat responsible for the worst contract in team history and ending with a below .500 record is not all that impressive. The Orioles sucking for 15 years prior to his arrival makes everyone look back at those teams more fondly than mostly anyone else would. I wonder how many people would hold Buck in way higher esteem than say John Gibbons who coincided with Buck's tenure here. Gibbons ended his time with the Blue Jays above .500, same # of division titles and double the play off wins.
  13. Wow, that's a pretty weaselly comment in regards to the WC game. I respect Buck and think he should/will get an ovation but come on man. We all know he was saving him for a save situation. It's something he's continued to do this season with Robertson. Honestly, Buck's career accolades don't even come close matching the perception that surrounds him. He should've stuck to being a media personality because he's a funny/thoughtful guy.
  14. But he would've saved John Angelos $6 million!!!
  15. I'm pretty shocked the Cards settled for this package given what some of the other rentals went for. Not that those packages were all that spectacular, and some of the players were (modest) upgrades over Flaherty, but you saw teams going after guys with louder tools instead of a low ceiling, quantity over quality approach. Prieto's lack of power will severely limit his value at the big league level and he's just an OK defender. He'll probably be a utility bench guy for them until they can find an upgrade there. Rom's stuff is nowhere close to above average SP quality at the big league level. You're looking at a slightly worse Cole Irvin in all likelihood making him redundant. He was probably going to be DFA'd sometime in the near future. Unless the Cards can pretty drastically change his delivery, Showalter is most likely a reliever. He could be a good one but who's sweating a relief prospect who is 3 years away?
  16. Find someone who is as passionate about you as DirtyBird is about hating Gunnar Henderson
  17. Well now we know he's getting traded
  18. He's in uniform at the game. MILB twitter posted a video of him and Jasson Dominguez meeting.
  19. The Miller trade wasn't a success or a failure. Miller was great for two months but when you "go for it" and nuke the basically non-existent SP depth in your system you'd hope you'd at least not got swept in the ALCS by a lower seed. IF you want to say it's OK because the Orioles had been so dreadful the previous decade+ that's fine but objectively the O's got the short end of the stick.
  20. They lucked into Elias because he advocated for something they were already doing before him and were obviously going to do no matter what? Sometimes incompetent people do something good. That's all that happened here.
  21. Ok whether or not you think those guys are just extra players, they are definitely going to impact things. It's incredibly stupid to think otherwise.
  22. Possibly the best lefty reliever on the market just went for a bag of balls. It will not be hard to get a quality addition or two for hardly anything.
  23. Good work. I was mostly aware of this breakdown but it's nice to see the actual numbers. Keep in mind, if we are noting the park factors at ABD it's only fair to acknowledge the same in Bowie in the dead of summer. Again, I'm stressing that I think he's a good prospect. He has a natural feel to hit and a great command of the strike zone. I also think he's quite athletic. But the questions are there. It's just how it is. I'm focused on the very near future here because the team we have is quite good. It's my opinion that he would struggle against major league caliber LHPs this summer. Doesn't mean that he will for his entire career but giving him an every day role on this squad at the expense of Santander does not make them better.
  24. He had 3 months worth of games outside of Aberdeen last year. His stats against LHP were absolutely dreadful. It's great that he's doing much better this year but it's 43 PA.......That's nothing. And the quality of pitcher he's facing in Norfolk is nowhere near the level he'll face in the bigs. That should be plenty obvious at this point. He's a good, maybe great, prospect. But we can't just sit here and act like there aren't plenty of reputable scouts out there that have questions about his splits. I highly doubt 43 PA are enough to absolutely answer those questions. I'm not being overly critical of the kid. He does a bunch of other things well. But if I'm Mike Elias and I'm thinking about the rest of the year, I'd much rather stick with Tony and Hays. No question. Saying that, I'd still like for him to come up at some point and get some chances. Just not at the expense of those two which is what I was responding to.
