  1. Seems reasonable. Austin Martin signed for $7M as the 5th pick.
  2. If there is any consensus right now, I think it's that Mayer goes #1 and Leiter doesn't last past #4. Several seem to think Boston will take him if he's still on the board. That leaves Lawlar, Watson, Davis, Rocker, House and Jobe, in that order, from MLB prospect rankings. 4 of those 6 will be available at pick #5. If Lawlar says he will only sign for 1-1 slot money, that's roughly $2.2M above the #5 slot value. It would be interesting to see how the O's evaluated these 6 guys. Do they see Lawlar as that much better than the others? Personally, I really like Watson, Davis and Jobe.
  3. Good article here: https://www.mlb.com/news/baltimore-orioles-2021-draft-preview Callis: This is not a good Draft for college bats, especially at the top. There is [Louisville catcher] Henry Davis, and then there is a dropoff. But there are four really good high school shortstops. At least a couple of those guys could be available at No. 5. And there's two really good college pitchers in [Vanderbilt righties] Jack Leiter and Kumar Rocker. And there's an excellent high school pitcher in [Oklahoma prep righty] Jackson Jobe. … While I don't think it's a deep Draft, I think the Orioles are in a good spot at pick No. 5, where they're going to get a really good player. … Unless they [make some] kind of deal or something, which has been rumored, they're going to get a player who might be on pretty equal footing with the guy who does go number one.
  4. So, just that simple huh? Underslot is a bad strategy regardless of reason or who is picked?
  5. The Mets also just lost Lucchesi and Gsellman.
  6. JMO, and I'm not knowledgeable but I think SD will regret the size of that Manny contract in a big way as the years go by.
  7. Are you seriously comparing your experience as a high school teacher who happens to be in a union to the army of attorneys who represent the players association who have been working on this upcoming negotiation for years?
  8. I think maybe you're a little dismissive of the collective experience and expertise of the group of people representing the players association. It's not just one former player who will be making decisions or negotiating.
  9. As you said above though, Mundy won't influence how they value Mancini and what they're willing to pay him. Two independent things there.
  10. Not sure what the article says behind the pay wall but here's an older article that spells out the beginnings. https://www.wbur.org/onlyagame/2018/08/10/savannah-bananas-baseball
  11. Having looked at a lot of mock's, it seems Mayer goes 1 and Leiter won't last beyond 4. Watson has shot up boards in the last week or so which makes me wonder if he's willing to go slightly underslot and that's why he's jumped up. But if Mayer goes 1 and Leiter goes either 3 or 4, that would leave some combo of: Jordan Lawlar (a more polished bat than Bobby Witt) but will turn 19 a week after the draft Kahlil Watson who has shot up boards but is a 5'9" probable second baseman Henry Davis, the best college position player in the draft Brady House who is comped as a more athletic Joey Gallo or Nolan Gorman If Elias goes underslot, I think it will be Colton Cowser or Sam Bachman. Sure hope we wind up with Lawlar.
  12. Here's a good article on what Bowie is focusing on: “Our hitting department has done a really good job of taking the focus from swinging at pitches we can hit to only swinging at pitches that we can drive,” manager Buck Britton explained this week at Prince George’s Stadium. “Even if that leads to (with) two strikes striking out looking, we’re all about swing decisions. Making sure we’re swinging at pitches that are over the middle of the plate. Because we know as we go up, the umpiring gets better, and if you continue to swing at pitches and get your A swing off on pitches that you can drive, that translates in the big leagues. We are really stressing that, and guys have bought in.” https://www.masnsports.com/steve-melewski/2021/06/a-look-at-how-bowie-moved-to-the-top-of-its-league-in-offense.html

    Infield defense

Just focusing on Henderson, he has 7 errors in the games between June 11 through June 18. Of the 12 errors overall, 6 are throwing and 6 are fielding. Not saying that to say there's a big issue. He's young enough and inexperienced enough that I don't see any cause for alarm at this point. He's a very good athlete with a good arm. Thanks to OP for the detailed information.
  14. Glad to see you're self aware.
  15. Well then I'm sorry my post did not please you.
  16. Yes but Trezza's tweet says to me that the DFA is not a sign of Rutschman moving anywhere.
  17. I'm not sure what your issue is but I'm not interested in arguing with you.
  18. There are multiple posts about Rutschman moving to AAA.
  19. Trezza tweets that the Sisco DFA is not related to Rutschman. May be making room for another claim.
  20. I've seen some posts suggesting Elias failed with the Kjerstad pick because he wasn't in contact with him and didn't do enough background work. Here's a good article on Oriole scout Ken Guthrie's close relationship with Kjerstad dating back to early high school years. https://www.nbcsports.com/washington/orioles/how-heston-kjerstads-relationship-orioles-area-scout-came-full-circle
