  1. Agreed, but I don't think he's any less of a concern than other regulars like Urias and Hays, and he offers much more upside offensively. I'm similarly skeptical about O'Hearn staying afloat. He has the same walk and strikeout rates at Mountcastle, but Ryan's walk rate is down from his usual while O'Hearn is at his normal number.
  2. Silly thread. For the postseason in general, I still favor Gibson and Flaherty. The only two guys who have any sort of postseason experience, and as a whole probably the two best pitchers. Not to say Bradish or Grayson can't be the best pitcher in the rotation at any time, but between the innings issues and inexperience I think their production could be more volatile.
  3. Exactly. What's the point of making a speculative add if you don't see what the guy has? His issue in Baltimore hasn't been his stuff, it's been mental. I forget where I read or heard it, but there was a report that he was nervous to play for Baltimore. Or at least in his first game. There's definitely a role for Fujinami in an Orioles uniform, I just don't have what kind of high leverage situations he can be trusted on in important games. The answer may be none.
  4. It’s all just mental with Fujinami. Clearly he has the talent to be an important and effective reliever, but it’s going to be tough to trust his confidence in an important game.
  5. This is very surprising to me. I'm more of a Baker supporter than most, but the guy has the capability to strike guys out in high leverage situations. I'd prefer him in the 'pen over the likes of Irvin, Krebiel, or Perez at this point. Perez has no options remaining. Irvin only has one.
  6. Orioles fans would have complained, but I don't think the national media would. I think most of the media personalities genuinely wanted the Orioles to make a splash because they genuinely want to see Baltimore make a push. I think picking up Fujinami and Flaherty were very Elias type moves. Eventually, he's going to have to lift off for real. But for now this is cool with me. They HAD to add another piece to the rotation and the bullpen, and they did both without hurting their farm system. The Orioles have overachieved until now. I don't know who they're going to get a hot streak from to keep on performing at a high level as a team. The additions of Flaherty and Fujinami give them some flexibility on the pitching side of things, and the influx of prospects (Cowser, Westburg, Ortiz, Kjerstad) and guys coming off the IL (Mountcastle, Hicks, Mullins) will hopefully give them a jolt in the lineup. Mountcastle already has. I'm also curious what additions they make to the 'pen going forward. Givens may be an option, though I'm not getting my hopes up. DL Hall and Wells should be back. Maybe Means. If Grayson struggles, I'd love to see what he can do out of the bullpen in the postseason. Flaherty gives the O's some flexibility to shuffle guys around in the rotation and the 'pen.
  7. I feel like people on here severely overrate the Orioles pitching staff. Not as good as Irvin is simply not true. Every year that Flaherty puts up 100+ innings he's proven that he has value. Irvin's two decent years came with 180IP each. His value came from being a workhorse. You can make arguments for Gibson and Bradish being better than Flaherty, and Grayson depending on how quickly he adjusts to the big leagues, but that's about it. And if Flaherty performs better than Gibson and Bradish the rest of the way it wouldn't be surprising.
  8. Similar performance to this year? I'd say at least 3/$45-$50 If he puts up similar numbers next year, the Orioles and Santander would both be getting a lot of attention. No longer a hidden value for the Orioles.
  9. It’s interesting that Eduardo would rather use his no trade to block LA and play Russian roulette with where he may get traded to. With that said, we don’t know who the other 9 teams on his no trade clause are.
  10. This was a trade Dan Szymborski from Fangraphs fantasy booked the other day: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/lets-make-some-deals-2023-trade-deadline-edition/
  11. That's not giving Cease enough credit. This is the third straight year he's been very, very good.
  12. A report came out that the White Sox are taking calls for Cease. This hack immediately jumps out and takes a team in the market for a starter who has the assets to get Cease and puts two and two together in hopes of randomly being correct and gaining Twitter followers.
  13. Perhaps between the Astros and the Dodgers it's hard to believe, but is it hard to believe that Verlander would exercise his no trade clause with the likes of Baltimore and not with Houston? Verlander absolutely can push for where he wants to go.
  14. The Tigers are going to get incredible value back for Lorenzen and Eduardo.
  15. Lyles was a workhorse who could eat up innings and that was definitely a need for the Orioles last year. Gibson fills the same need but offers more quality overall. I wouldn't be surprised if Gibson has a strong second half. He doesn't have the highest ceiling, but he's right at the 2.5-3.0 fWAR that he falls into more often than not. It would be interesting what his trade value would have been if the O's were sellers at the deadline.
  16. Perhaps unconventional for a hopefully winning team next year to sell, but even if Verlander declines there should be salvage value for the Orioles if they want - they can trade him at next year's deadline.
  17. Unless they find other Fujinami types of moves, getting a middle/back end rotation guy or a name reliever is going to be just as much of an overpay in my mind. If most people are going to think that the O's overpaid for any trades (and who doesn't overpay at the deadline?), then most people should be happy if the O's stand pat. Which I don't think would be the case.
  18. That's not gonna get it done. There's nothing to regret because it's not realistic.
