  1. Pressly is really laboring this inning. The only out was on a bad call to Adley.
  2. Are people actually complaining about Means not pitching more than 86 pitches? Is this not the same pitcher who hasn’t pitched more than five innings since starting his rehab assignment? Also the guy who posters were saying is a horrible matchup against the Astros in this ballpark like 6 innings ago?
  3. Yeah, and Gunnar scored a run and the reaction is that he shouldn’t be leading off.
  4. Means throwing nothing but meatballs in the first. Could have been much more than 1 run
  5. There's only 10 qualified catchers and Adley has 85 more plate appearances than anyone else.
  6. Varitek wasn't the best hitter. 2023 Adley is nearly as good as Varitek's best offensive season, value-wise.
  7. People are focusing on Adley's lack of power numbers, but his defensive numbers are also down this year. To me, that's just as significant. I think it's more likely that his defense rebounds next year (it already has as this season has gone on), but if we're comparing him to Weiters or Posey, those two were elite on the defensive side. Even with Adley's "struggles" offensively and defensively, he's still got about a 4 fWAR this year. If only one of those rebound next year, he's a 5-6 WAR guy.
  8. You're assuming that the celebration would affect the team negatively.
  9. You can do far worse than McKenna has a depth OF piece. The O's just have a lot of depth and exciting talents at both the major league and minor league level.
  10. Not only the first two partial seasons - Santander's walk rate went from around 5-6% to 8-9% the last two seasons. Santander's turned into a real professional hitter. Took a while though.
  11. I don’t think there’s any way Cano wouldn’t be the closer. All-Star replacing an All-Star. Cano deserves the opportunity and seems to have the moxie for it. Replacing Cano with a number of arms would be the easier option. I think that Coulombe and Cano would be the 1-2.
  12. I don't really disagree with you, but it seems like the O's are intent on pushing Means back.
  13. As an out of towner, one place that might be easy and on the way to Camden is Pratt Street Ale house. Maybe there are better spots that a local can recommend. It'll probably be busy there, though. Walking from the area Blackwall Hitch is in isn't too bad if you don't mind walking. It's just about a mile. I usually post up in a hotel near the Harbor East area and we don't have issues walking to and from games from there assuming the weather is okay.
  14. Since he came back from the minors? Since June 10 he has a 3.00 ERA. He's pitched well enough. He's striking out 8 batters per 9 in that timeframe. Hall is striking out 22 batters per 9 in the last month (a small sample size of 10.2 innings). I don't know what kind of value Irvin would have in the playoffs outside of long relief. I think a healthy Means would have priority over Irvin. Not sure how many starters/long relief guys you really want on your playoff roster.
  15. Mussina seems like a guy who just kind of wants to ride off in the sunset and live a quiet life. Not really an ambassador type. Isn't he a basketball coach in Williamsport, PA?
  16. Baltimore just has so much consistency. There are no real low points with this team. The offense knows what it's going to get out of the pitching and visa versa. The defense has been improving. 1-7 of the lineup are all .800 OPS guys this year give or take 20 points either way when they are hot and cold. You know what you're getting out of the lineup, and the pitching has really come together the past couple of weeks. The depth in the rotation and in the bullpen have improved. Baltimore just lacks a thumper in the rotation and in the lineup. Those thumpers might already be on the roster (Rodriguez and Henderson, perhaps Rutschman when he finds his power), but they're not there yet. Doesn't mean they can't get hot at the right time in the playoffs. We'll see how the O's perform in the next 12 games - the White Sox, Rockies, and Angels are teams they should beat up on. The Diamondbacks are the toughest of the bunch, but not very intimidating. I really hope we see this team hit the accelerator button over the next two weeks.
  17. Gibson's year by year numbers are remarkably consistent. This was a really savvy signing by Elias, even though it wasn't and still isn't exciting. His walk rates and HR rates have been better in recent years as well. He's a true veteran. Dean Kremer should be taking notes. I think his career could go down a similar path with some luck.
  18. The problem with keeping all of these guys who are generally starters is that you need guys who can work high leverage situations. But I guess you might be going with your best 3-4 high leverage guys every time - it's not worth saving anyone. I think instead the Orioles starters are not going to deep into games, and they're going to need a variety of arms to get by inning by inning. I think Baumann makes it, along with Cano, Coulombe, Webb and Bautista for traditional relievers. It sure seems like they are pushing Means for a spot, but it's still a bit of a road ahead to pencil him in. When others say it's too early to talk about this, I think guys like him and Webb are prime examples. Bradish, Flaherty, Rodriguez, and Gibson I would think would be the rotation. Unless Rodriguez struggles and they'd rather use him in the 'pen. Insert Means. I just don't see them not going with Gibson unless he implodes. Irvin will be the interesting one to me. Maybe they'll get that clubhouse dog he's pushing for and someone he'll have to take it for a walk during games. Kremer has to make it, but I don't know what his role would be. I'd almost rather Grayson be used in the bullpen and situationally. Flaherty out of the bullpen could be interesting if he's able to get his velo up by doing so. For the last spot, it's a toss up between Irvin, Perez and Hall for me. Let the best man win. I'm probably dropping Irvin. Hall has 15 strikeouts in his last 6.2 innings in AAA. I don't trust any of these three.
  19. How does Wells' last three MLB starts compare to Flaherty's? Or does using the word "rejuvenated" just negate Wells' past performance?
  20. This has got to be some sort of trolling, no? Guy who has the more extreme opinion calls out the other guy with a more logical thought and says he's arguing to argue. Guy who has the more extreme opinion also thinks Tyler Wells is somehow above Flaherty on the food chain.
