  1. Going with Orioles only but anything that is interesting or creates discussion is cool by me
  2. ...who would it be and why? Specifically from the Wild Card Era. Question taken from a Jomboy podcast.
  3. Four innings in 2023 against the O's, all out of the bullpen. O's were up 7-1 in this game after 2.5 innings in Texas.
  4. Rangers fans are probably even more worried about Dunning. He's never been good against lefties, at all. O's are gonna throw a bunch of lefties against him. I think the O's are set up pretty well Game 1.
  5. I feel the same about Kremer in the bullpen, but what is the likelihood the Orioles use him out of the 'pen in anything that resembles a medium leverage situation? I don't know if I see them using Gibson, Flaherty or Kremer in anything of real significance out of the bullpen. I'm not planning the Game 4 starter off of who I might want to have available of the bullpen in Games 4 or 5. But yeah, I don't see them announcing the Game 4 starter for a while in case they have to use one of these guys in long relief for Games 1-3.
  6. It wasn't a sellout, but it was close. Tropicana has an official capacity of 25,000 but it can hold 42,000. It's just sad to see such a low attendance.
  7. And sometimes it's the opposite. The opposite seems to be one of Elias' strengths when building a team.
  8. That and Nate McLouth scoring the first run of the Orioles 2012 playoffs are most memorable for me from that 2012-2016 run. Who will be this year's Delmon Young? Of course it will be Frazier. Some way, somehow
  9. Urias' lack of power is most of that. While that's disappointing, there's no reason to think Mateo is any better. He's hit 1 HR since the end of April and had a .303 slugging in September. Urias still got on base at a okay enough clip against lefties - .315.
  10. I think Hyde will be aggressive using his bench, but I agree that I don't think the lineup will change much during the playoffs. I could see any of Urias/Frazier/Westburg subbing a start for one another, but I don't think Mateo fits that bill. He's a guy they're going to want to pick and choose his spots more carefully. But I could see them using Mateo earlier in games on the basepaths and not just at the end in the highest leverage situations. Starting a guy like Mateo against LHP in favor of Mullins like someone suggested is just nuts to me.
  11. Bullpens have to get reworked every offseason. Some guys will fade and they'll have new guys that contribute out of nowhere.
  12. Not really! O's were so good this year that we get a week off.
  13. I don't know why people take such pride in being hardcore fans anyways. Like why wouldn't we welcome anyone on the Orioles bandwagon at any time? Who cares?
  14. I get that for the regular season, 162 games is a long season and a major commitment daily. I probably don't watch most games, but a good percentage of them. Honestly, if it's a lopsided game either way I probably change the channel. I'd like to watch competitive baseball, otherwise I'd rather be doing other things. But it also depends on the year. I didn't watch much of anything from 2019-2021. I'm also out of market so I have to pay for MLB.tv to watch. No way I'm doing that if the team isn't halfway competitive. No way I'm not watching these games live and in full during the playoffs though.
  15. Underachieved is the wrong word. He's just developing. But between his slow start to the season (.700 OPS through end of May), him moving around defensively between SS and 3B (seems better at short), it took him a while to find his groove. Basically, I think a full season of Gunnar today is considerably better than 2023 Gunnar as a whole. And that's without any further development.
  16. Hmm, not a terrible idea with the upper deck. Oriole park is the 9th largest ballpark in terms of capacity. Going smaller is a trend - could make sense for Baltimore to do the same. They would lose a decent amount of revenue for the big games against the likes of the Yankees, but there's probably financial reasons to do it as well. They actually could take a page out of Petco park with left field.
  17. Combine the ads to the left and right of the jumbotron and make that the size of the new one. I don't think that whole Baltimore Sun contraption needs to be bigger, but it needs to be redone.
  18. I find Gunnar's fWAR to be more realistic than his bWAR. I do think Gunnar is the better prospect, and at this point probably the better player. But I think we forget how not good he was to start this season. I'm going Adley because of his consistency, the culture, and even his representing the Orioles in the All-Star Game and the Home Run Derby. I guess it depends on how you define value. But Adley passing Gunnar in fWAR over the past handful of games is enough for me to still choose Adley. I also think it's reasonable to think that both players somewhat underachieved as a whole this year. Maybe that's the wrong word to use as well, but expectations are likely higher for both next season.
  19. The only way I see (maybe hope) he gets playoff time is for pinch running or as a defensive sub only when they’re out of options when Hyde subs them a lot of guys to pinch hit. I assume both he and Frazier are gone next year, naturally opening up more playing time for Westburg and giving Ortiz room to start the season on the MLB roster and get some playing time. When it’s time to call up Holliday, the O’s will have seen enough out of Westburg, Ortiz and Urias to make a decision on who stays and who gets flipped.
  20. What is Grayson's slot in the ALDS playoff rotation? #2 is an obvious choice. But #1 could be considered. Could John Means find his way as the #2 with him being a lefty and being able to pitch at Camden?
  21. When the season started I predicted that Aaron Hicks would be batting cleanup in a game that may clinch the division.
  22. It will be interesting to see how he does with future national broadcasts and outside of the Orioles organization in general.
  23. I think it's almost entirely based on fan voting. Fan approval ratings. They also noted that they only received around 10,000 votes total compared to 60,000 the last time they did this. So, small sample size. It would be interesting if the Hangout did similar approval ratings of Orioles commentary on a yearly basis.
  24. I didn't watch yesterday's game. I'll have to take a quick listen to see how they are. Awful Announcing had them ranked 3rd to last in the commentary rankings - https://awfulannouncing.com/orig/2023-mlb-local-broadcaster-rankings.html
