Pirates Sources Says Bundy May Go No. 1

For the draft laymen around here (read: me), why would the Pirates pass on Cole and Rendon? Is it just concerns over money? Or is there something about them that at least partially justify passing on them for an arm like Bundy. Rendon has the injury, so I guess I'm asking more in regards to Cole.

Both supposedly want a ton of money. Rendon has been injured and DHing all season, "down" numbers for him, and hasn't yet released medicals to teams. Cole has had four straight "meh" starts in spite of showing his same big stuff (94-96, bumping 98 w/hard slider and good change). I can't see them going Bundy, but if there is another college arm they like that they can sign for 60% of Cole, I could see them doing that.

When a guy like Mayo says that Bundy might have the highest OFP in the draft for a pitcher, is he way out of line? Does Bundy have the highest pitching upside in the draft?

Certainly a defensible position, in my opinion.

I'm not sure I'd take Bundy over Cole, but if the Orioles take any other college pitcher with Bundy on the board I will be disappointed.
