There's also something to be said, I think, for having that sort of protection. When a pitcher is dealing with Jeter, Cano, etc etc they probably approach Ibanez as an "easier" out. Mistake pitches happen and boom, you have a resurrected career.

I fully expect him to get hurt this year, though.
