Bundy Pitching on MiLB.tv Right Now (6/27/14)

Bundy was pitching from 90-94 mph and thought his secondary pitches were solid during his 70-pitch outing.

"Curveball, I was a real happy with it," he said. "Left a couple up in the fourth out of the zone, but other than that I was real happy with the curveball. Other than the one changeup the guy hit to left-center, I was happy with that. It was too firm at times, was throwing it like 87 to 89 which was pretty firm for where my fastball is.

"There are about 10 things I need to work on," he said. "But I just work on maybe one or two things in the bullpen (sessions). Bullpen last week, I worked on my times to home plate (with a runner on first base). They were really slow at 1.4 or 1.5 (seconds). Tonight, got that down to 1.3, so happy about that. Felt more comfortable in the fourth or fifth with guys on base with my times.
Graham has seen Bundy make progress with Aberdeen.

"I saw two of his starts here. I feel like the fastball command has been very good," Graham said. "The velocity has been good. It's certainly not 96, 97 yet but it's definitely been good. Tonight, the curveball was much better than his last outing. Changeup was good, a little bit firm but good. He looks like it's free and easy. Doesn't look like there is a lot of effort involved, so that's a plus."

As I wrote last night, it appears the Orioles are deciding between Single-A Frederick and Double-A Bowie for Bundy's next stop. My sense is they are leaning toward Frederick for his next start.

You stated:

The bolded is just wrong! .... I already proved that you are wrong.

Yes some doctors do no take insurance (If you are thinking of dumb TV doctors like Dr. Drew then sure go ahead)... but just because Dr. Andrews is famous does not exclude him from accepting insurance at his practice.

Both of you, please stop.

Also, any word on the buddy gun readings?

He topped out at 94 mph. Most were around 91-92. I'm not sure if it was a change up or curve but he was throwing those at around 74 mph. Almost a 20 mph difference. Almost unhittable.

I think you folks are arguing the wrong issue. The issue shouldn't be whether Andrews takes insurance, it should be whether the insurance company chooses to pay for the surgery. I work with a guy who needs Tommy John if he wants to continue to play in over 30 competitive baseball league. Since it only affects recreation, our insurance at work will not pay for the surgery as its considered elective surgery, unnecessary for him to have for normal work performance, and the only time it bothers him is when he tries to throw a baseball 90 MPH.

Good point. I bet it is elective for most insurances in cases like that. I imagine it is extremely expensive as well. Shame for your friend.

Great to hear Bundy is doing so well. If Bundy was being hit all over the place but pain free, I bet we would still be ecstatic.

The ones not calling him a bust.

That's the curve. I heard the change was 86-88, which is less ideal.

Pretty sad that Aberdeen has had Dylan Bundy pitching for them...and they're still 1-15 on the season.

This dude is my favorite player bar none.

Beyond the physical talent I love his mindset and professional approach to everything including his rehab since he joining this organization.

Its early but he sure seems to have the mindset and physical tools to be the kinda of monster we have not seen here in Baltimore in quite some time.

I know for a fact that Dr. Andrews takes insurance. At least he did ~5 years ago.

He would be an idiot not to. By law he would be required to carry malpractice insurance and my guess is he has an additional policy that would help to offset the high income loss potential his clientele have. Even under the best of circumstances bad things can and do occasionally happen.

Surgery is a risky business to some degree even when your not doing it on multi-million dollar arms.

They're arguing about whether he takes insurance as part of his clients' payment (he does), not whether he has insurance.

    • Good point, no other metropolitan area has more than one team.
    • Could it be that they allowed the Gnats to reside within 30 minutes of their home. Effectively cutting their market in half?
    • Got my all-time low rarity score on today's game - 6.
    • 41 freaking years and here's this guy with the name pickles telling me I should be happy with 91 wins and getting owned in the playoffs again. 😂 😂 I saw a team that looked terrible the second half and probably didn't even deserve that spot the way they were playing .
    • Lol. Here's the funny they know more then you know. Typical Oriole fan who's happy with getting punched in the mouth.
    • I don’t like the wall. I think it’s affecting our hitters. I’ve mentioned before that I think it has totally warped Mountcastle into something he was never really meant to be. The guy came up as a pull-heavy HR hitter, and in his first season-plus (725 PAs), he puts up 38 HRs and a 116 wRC+. Since then, the wRC+ is down to 110, and his approach has totally changed, with his pull numbers plummeting (down from 39% in 2021 to less than 28% this year). He still hits the ball hard, but constantly underachieves his batted ball data — probably because he’s trying to avoid the pull field and hitting balls to the deepest parts of pretty much every other park. Will the same thing happen to Mayo? Maybe he has more pure power, but it’s always going to be a challenge for a RH slugger to survive with that wall. So much harder to do damage.   Beyond that, I think it’s also creating a serious risk of changing our LH hitters’ approaches too. These guys (Henderson, Holliday, Cowser, 2/3 of Adley) have come up with a reputation for being able to drive the ball to all fields. But how long does that continue when they just can’t hit it out to the opposite field? Our LH hitters had a combined 44 wRC+ at OPACY, and only one HR. They had the 3rd most balls hit to LF at home by LHHs, but the lowest wRC+ of any team on those balls (for the second straight year). The Royals, ironically enough, were the only team that was lower than a 70 wRC+ — that’s how much worse our lefties fared going oppo (at OPACY) than everyone else’s. By player: Gunnar Henderson: 112 wRC+ / .160 ISO (51 PAs) Adley Rutschman: 10 wRC+ / .026 ISO (38 PAs) Anthony Santander: 14 wRC+ / .095 ISO (43 PAs) Colton Cowser: 58 wRC+ / .057 ISO (36 PAs) Ryan O’Hearn: 47 wRC+ / .091 ISO (55 PAs) Cedric Mullins: 23 wRC+ / .100 ISO (41 PAs) Jackson Holliday: -72 wRC+ / .000 ISO (16 PAs)   On the road, they had a combined 126 wRC+ (with 9 HRs) going to left field, so it’s not like they’re bad at it. It’s just Death Valley out there in LF for them at OPACY.  How long will it be until these LH guys just start going full pull-happy? Essentially, the opposite of what’s happened with Mountcastle. When (a) your team’s philosophy is to focus on doing damage and (b) you can’t DO damage to the opposite field — the rational endpoint is just to try to pull everything. I don’t think that’s a good outcome. I think it makes them much worse hitters in the other 81 games, and I think it’s a terrible waste of a bunch of really talented hitters with all-field abilities.
