If O'Day is still sick on Wed and goes on the DL,who gets the call?

Probably not Aquino or Ynoa.  They still have a warm up game at AAA for the start on the 15th.  Who knows which one pitches better.

There is Bleier and Lee but they are both lefties and that means 4 lefties in the pen.   Probably not.

Verrett and Wright have really not pitched well this spring.

Maybe Asher.   Does Buck trust him enough to promote him after seeing him for one game?

They could DFA Dariel Alvarez and call up Crichton.  Buck liked him this spring.

My guess is that they don't want to be without Darren for 10 days and will wait on him if that is at all possible.

Even if Aquino allows 8 earned runs while pitching poorly in his next start at AAA and Ynoa pitches well in his AAA start?

Yes, all the more so. The idea would be to use Aquino in the relief role to keep Ynoa on track to start. If Aquino has a bad start, that would be all the more reason to keep him in mop-up duty.

He does deserve a promotion at some point based on his overall resume. One bad start would not change that.

What if Ynoa allows 8 earned runs in his next AAA start?

As long as he is healthy I wouldn't sweat it. He is the best option based on the resume and if I have to bring up one of them now and start the other on the 15th, it's Aquino now and Ynoa as the starter. Who cares what happens in one start?

Buck cares.  He rarely calls up a guy from the minors after they are beat up in their last start.

Who is making the fourth start? Or, actually, the fifth start because Gausman could pitch the fourth game.  Can Miley?  Are they able to backdate his DL to ST?  I could see them holding off to make a move with DOD and then DL him to bring up the fourth starter.

Roch has this to say:

Quote

Left-hander Wade Miley said he feels great, his bout with the flu in the past, and he’s slated to pitch a simulated game Tuesday at Double-A Bowie. Miley is expected to come off the disabled list to start April 9 against the Yankees at Camden Yards.

As for O'Day, I thought Buck said he was well enough to pitch as he was better? Is this just chaff to keep the opposing team guessing?

Miley is available on the 9th for game 5.   My guess in Drake is DFA'd to make room for him and the O''s go back to a 7 man pen.

How many guys has he called up to start with essentially zero AAA or MLB experience?

If he calls up Ynoa for the 15th then Ynoa has a year of AAA experience. Aquino did pitch at AAA and with the O's last year though both stays were brief.   Gausman was called up from AA if memory serves me right.  Bundy has never pitched a day in AAA.

Not exactly. Buck said this: “Hopefully, not using him today or tomorrow, he’ll be available Wednesday. If not, we’re going to need to think about DLing him. I really want to make sure he’s healthy to start the year.”

    • Not that I am in any way full agreement, but this is a classic post.  Doesn't Machado play chess?  Maybe we could get some chess boards in the clubhouse and junk all the legos.  Not all great baseball men are John McGraw bad asses.  Some can be Christy Mathewsons as well, I suppose.  Not that I imagine today's young players much resembling McGraw or Mathewson, but they are the first two contrasting old school types that come to mind.  I will say just based on his postseason alone I'd much rather have Tatis over Machado.
    • Well I refuse to believe that only the O's have no players that want extensions.
    • Customer advocate groups have tried for decades to force the cable companies to allow channel by channel (a la carte) subscriptions, but the cable companies fought this because it would result in far less revenue (than forcing us to pay for a hundred channels we don't watch).  The government refused to intervene, so we've been stuck with the existing business model for all this time.  Streaming is forcing the change because streaming -- for now -- is an a la carte model.   MLB's fear must be this: if the regional sports network cable channel model goes away, will most users pay anywhere close to what these channels made as part of a cable bundle for just one streaming channel where all you watch are Orioles games (or maybe Orioles and Nats games -- whatever the case may be)?  So if you pay $100/month for cable with MASN, you are probably watching at least a few other channels too.  But will you pay $15/month (or whatever the price may be) just to watch the Orioles -- even during the months when there is no baseball?  The existing basic cable model has been quite stable because people tend to watch at least 5 or 6 channels.  They're reluctant to cancel their whole cable package just because baseball season is over -- or they've been too busy to watch many games this season.  But with a single streaming channel of just baseball there is bound to be a far more unstable revenue base.  All the streaming channels are already dealing with this problem.  I think MLB is maybe reluctant to go all in on streaming for this reason.  Perhaps they're looking for new different model that could allow them to bundle individual team channels with Netflix, or Prime, or maybe with your cell phone plan or something else.  This could give them some stability, but it could also be a turn off for the more hardcore fans who just want the Orioles and little else.  It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out and if MLB, and the Orioles, will prosper or suffer as a result.
    • What if they don’t want to be extended?
    • I don't want the O's to lose much, but I do want there to be a massive streaming deal with Amazon or some other company the O's are left out of.  This blackout nonsense is bullsh!t. 🤬
