If we are playoff bound, we still need one more starting pitcher

Anyone thinking about Ervin Santana can scratch him off their list. I read that he partially tore ligaments in his elbow a few years back and chose to rehab it. I doubt he'd pass a physical with us. Since he's under contract for more than this year.

I think our best hope is if Cashner made it to us in the waiver process. Right now would be the best time for TEX to get him through to us. CWS, Det, Oak, Min, LAA, Tor wouldn't claim him. SEA probably would but we would be right before them right now.

What is 11-12 starts of Andrew Cashner worth?  Someone like Hess/Lee/Means????

Scott Feldman's coming off DL soon. Just saying...

Hahahahahaha lets get him!

In all seriousness though, I wouldn't be opposed to adding Cashner IF we could get him CHEAP.  Like I mean nothing inside our top 30 prospects cheap.

I also agree that we are hot right now, and might just stay that way, but adding some insurance to the rotation (and as a consequence the bullpen) couldn't hurt at all.

In the case we do get Cashner or a similar type, I'd say send Miley to long relief, and don't mess with Ubaldo.  Leave him in the rotation.  He's a clubouse guy, and I think we rally behind him if he continues to pitch like he's been pitching.

I'm not afraid of Cleveland, KC, Tampa, NYY, or Boston, but I would think we'd need someone to knock off Houston for us. Problem is that would require us to win the division, because Houston is running away with the best record in the AL, and if we win the play-in game, we're heading right for 'em.

Then again, we kinda felt that way heading into the 2014 Detroit series and their crazy rotation, sooo....

Just saying. I'm not sure how much more I want to invest in a team that likely has to defeat Houston, BOS/NYY/CLE, and the Dodgers to win a WS title. But I think we are heading to the post season, and we are capable of making some noise. I definitely believe we can be as good as anyone when we're clicking.

I think if Bundy and Gausman pitch to their potential, we can hang with any of those teams. Provided of course that Bundy's arm doesn't implode but wouldn't it be great if the two young guns led us to a deep play off run. I also have a feeling Tillman will be fixed for September.

I keep saying, just get in and you roll the dice. I really want to somehow face the dodgers or astros with Britton just as a screw you to those teams and all the national reporters blasting us at the deadline.

Would Mike Wright help if given another shot?  I know he sucked before, but you never know.

I think Wright would excel in the Castro/Bleier out of the pen. Hopefully he can build some confidence and win a rotation spot next year. He has much more of chance to make an impact in September than guys like Scott or Liranzo.

Do you think they would have to give up the value of a highly rated prospect to get the likes of a Miggy G?

I don't believe we'd have to give up a top 25 guy to get him.

If they are willing to give him away, fine. My guess is they are getting a lot of calls about Gonzo right now.

+1.  It'd be a good opportunity to move Castro to the rotation and replace his spot in the pen with Wright.

One cheap move I'd consider:  Josh Collmenter of the Braves; had a terrible start to the season, but it was at least partially due to an injury.  He's looked great at AAA lately and is not likely in the Braves' plans.  He had some really solid years with Arizona as a swingman but never took off; 1.20 lifetime WHIP.  Reminds me of Tanner Roark.

I'm in on this now too. I think it would be nice to subtract Ubaldo from rotation with someone comparable to Hellickson. Gonzo is a good comp.

We are in the playoff race now and 5 starts are not unimportant and could move the needle for a playoff appearance, and I think that's significant enough to move a piece like what we moved for Hellickson.

I don't see anything on MLBTR, but I'm hoping DD is trying something.

Hell, I'd still be open to Verlander for the next 3 years if all it costs was money. PA wants to see a winner...

    • I honestly think there is very little difference in most the teams that made the playoffs.  The most wins was 98 wins and there was 12 teams with 86 wins or more.  It also seems that many of the teams are on the same page with scouting and analytics now hitting wise.  Years back you had moneyball which the A’s used before anyone else.  Then the Astros and few teams started with analytics and seemed to be ahead of the rest of the league but they have caught up now imo.  Now the move seems to be on launch angle and hitting homers by getting the ball in the air but that seems to be across the league.  Obviously some teams have more money and more talented players but the strategy seems about the same.  The main differences I see is in pitching in the playoffs which is bullpen games and using openers rather then a starter to go 7 innings and carry your team to win now a slight sign of trouble they are taking them out.  With all these short inning guys and pitching them in certain pockets we are seeing very little offense and the hitting with runners in scoring position has been awful.  It all comes down to RISP at bats and getting 1 or 2 big base hits in those situations.  We just haven’t been able to get those hits so far in short series.
    • And we've seen similar with Kjerstad. Kjerstad might be the best pure hitting prospect in the Orioles system of recent years besides Gunnar. I want to see him playing everyday next year is possible none of this sitting him versus LHP more often than not. These prospects need to get their reps and stop treating them like John Lowenstein and Benny Ayala.
    • I don’t see Elias trading off prospects anymore at least top guys.  We have moved a few guys in last year and I expect they try to build that back up.  They should have money to use if they want to add talent.
    • Blah, well Rob Manfred has to be happy along with Fox network. A Yankees-Mets World Series match up is still on the table and the Dodgers as well if they win tomorrow. I knew the Royals would get jettisoned by the Yankees without too much of a fight.
    • For Mountcastle …Maybe Chase Petty and Tristan Smith?
    • I’m guessing they ask for Mayo or Basallo of Kjerstad. For me …I’d give them Kjerstad since he’s defensively challenged IMO. Maybe Kjerstad, McDermott, Beavers, and O’Ferrall?
    • 192 wins in two seasons is a pretty strong argument to stay the course.  That said, I wonder if the young players wouldn't be better off long-term if the scientific matchups took a back seat to the raw talent a little more than we've seen.  Overthinking something can be a thing you know.
