Unofficial Shadow Draft Thread

Recommended Posts

'fischbowl and Stotle among others have started threads that are basically a 'what I would've done' shadow draft, as opposed to what really happened. I love it... but thought an actual thread dedicated to everyone's 'picks' would be cool.

Top 5 rounds seems right...

1st: (4): Brian Matusz, LHP, San Diego (Matusz)

2nd (50): Tyler Ladendorf, SS, Howard CC (Avery)

Fills the massive void up the middle and also provides us with a legitimate speed prospect. Was hoping for Logan Forsythe to fall.

3rd (81): Scott Gorgen, RHP, UC Irvine (Hoes)

Most Underrated Pitcher In The Draft IMO. Statistically Successful With The Best Changeup In College Baseball. I like the Hoes selection a lot barring we sign him. It'll be hard.

4th (116): Austin DiCharry, RHP, Texas HS (Hudson)

Love His Curveball, But After Safe, Signable Picks In Ladendorf and Gorgen, We Would Have The Money To Possibly Go Over Slot for DiCharry.

5th (148): Peter Andrelczyk, RHP, Coastal Carolina (Miclat)

Flame-Throwing Senior Closer Should Rise Fast Through The Minors.

6th (176): Nate Recknagel, 1B, Michigan (Zagone)

Another College Senior Has Great Power Stroke

Where my players ended up:

Matusz with us at 4

Ladendorf: Round 2, Minnesota Twins

Gorgen: Round 4, St. Louis Cardinals

DiCharry: Undrafted; University of Texas

Andrelczyk: Round 5, Florida Marlins

Recknagel: Round 19, Cleveland Indians

Dicharry appears to be one of those 'unsignables' that I mentioned... it's hard to know without being in the know. ;)

I will add videos as well. I would go over slot and make sure everyone got what they wanted and what was fair. It would instantly transform our system in one year. We would be loaded. Its a little far fetched but a guy can dream. I think we would have about 25 top 200 guys in this draft. Just the first 20 picks alone would be awesome. Hell with what money we freed up with Miggy we could sign quite a few guys. I think theres some very nice pitchers and mashers as well. There may be a few mess ups so sorry i was getting a little confused here and there.

Haven't looked at the whole list, but Melville was gone at 4:3.

Hens, the only problem I have with your shadow draft is that you draft major unsignable prep prospects high such as Melville, Meyer, Galloway, Martinez, Long, Hicks, Harris (bound to Naval Commitment), Mooneyham, and Gray. All expressed strong intentions to play college ball, and there has to be some sory of reality to this. You also have Walker Kelly twice :P

I love the Guilmet and Babineau picks however

I totally understand. There a few i should have left off there. But i honestly think if Melville, Meyer, Galloway, and Mooneyham were drafted higher and paid they would sign. Just think of what those 4 alone would do for our system. To have three 3 top 20 pitchers would be special to go along with Matusz. Actually give me Matusz, Melville,Meyer and Galloway and im totally satisfied. To hang with the Yanks and Sox we need to spend like them. Look what the Dodgers have done with going over slot and taking risks. By the way i was really hoping for Guilmet and Babineau too.
