Really stupid on the team’s part. Last year a group of 10 of us at work bought tix two weeks before OD. People gotta give notice and make plans with their families. They should have released these sooner.

They were waiting for last minute season ticket purchasers to give the tickets to.

Wow, so it looks like this might not even be a sell out today?

Has that ever happened before in Orioles history since Camden Yards opened?

I don't think so. Usually they sell out of standing room only tickets as well. This year they aren't even selling those. So very far from a sell-out.

It's a week after everyone else opened and two weeks after they started playing ball Also a team that lost 115 games.  SO probably!

I am going to assume that the lowest fan interest in the Orioles (prior to now of course) likely occurred during the 14 year stretch of losing.   Here are the Home Opener attendance numbers for each year:

1998:  46,820

1999:  46,733

2000:  46,902

2001:  46,547

2002:  48,058   (Vs the Yankees, interestingly enough)

2003:  46,257

2004:  47,683

2005:  48,271  (Vs Oakland!)

2006:  46,986

2007:  48,711 (Vs Twins)

2008:  46,807

2009:  48,607 (Vs the Yankees again!   I was at this one I'm pretty sure)

2010:  48,891 (Vs the Jays!  so interesting that this is highest one yet for this period)

2011:  46,593

2012:  46,773

So it looks like 2003 was the low water mark for us so far,  let's see how close we get this year.

All those games were sell outs with standing room only tickets even all sold out.  I was the 2012 game with SRO tickets.  And there weren't even any empty seats of people who didn't attend.

Today's game probably will have around 5k empty seats.  And no SRO seats sold.  I guess scalpers will take the biggest hit today but next year will be on the team.

huh, not true about 2003.

In 2015, the spring AFTER our most successful playoff run we only drew 45,936 for the Home Opener.   This was the year of the riots but the Home Opener was obviously before that.

2016 it fell again to 45,785

2017 it was 45,667

2018 it was 45,469

So it's been a bit of a trend actually these last few years to see a slight decline each time.  Apparently completely independent of how the team performs.

They're going to sell Standing Room tickets at the walk-up sales booths. Any scalper worth their salt has already unloaded their tickets, but I'm sure there's a few still bag-holding.

No this isn't true. The games were sold out even of standing room only tickets.  You are just taking paid attendance numbers.  They probably gave away more tickets.

Also not after the 2010 season, I believe they removed seats from the stadium.

There probably at least 4k of seats sitting on stubhub right now.  Scalpers can't sell what people don't want to buy.

Oh that's right, didn't they reduce the capacity a few years back?  By making the seats fatter or something?

According to wiki the capacity now (since 2011) is only 45,971.

So apparently maybe these last few years weren't either?

The last year I went was 2014. I had SRO tickets.  There were like 100 tickets left on stubhub the morning of the game. By game time there were only 2 left on stubhub. I just sat in those seats as figured no one would buy them.

In 2014 we drew 46,685 which would be well above the 45,971 threshold so it makes sense that it was a sellout.   That was apparently the last time though that we went above that number.
