Seems like the Dodgers were able to get under the luxury tax because of this.

LAD - seems crazy, but they get under the luxury tax, get Betts, and get a discounted David Price that should flourish in the NL West.

Min - Gets a steady #3 SP for pitching prospect.

Dodgers are great at cap management.

Seems crazy but LAD just have so much depth.

LAD - they get under the luxury tax, consolidate their OF depth and get Betts, get a reduced Price pitching in the NL West. They also pick up a tools Refino.

Minn - they get a steady #3 SP for a pitching prospect that they might only view as a reliever. They are going to be a force.

LAA - Pederson could be a difference maker. They just keep adding this offseason.

BOS - Seems like they are waiving the white flag. Sure 5 years of Verdugo is awesome, but they paid like $50 million remaining not Price’s deal, plus lose Price. Also, the prospect they got back may only be a reliever.

The biggest thing behind this trade was the Dodgers avoiding the luxury tax by using their depth. You can only have 26 people on a roster at a time.

Verdugo looks like he's a pretty good player.  And he looks like a douchebag, too...so he'll fit in well in Boston, at least from that perspective.  I'll like this trade a lot more if he crashes and burns.

He is also hurt in a way that may make him less than he appeared to be.

Wish we could’ve gotten in on the Dodgers trying to get under the luxury tax with Givens. That’s why we need Givens pitching better the 1st half. He’s cheap.

Having him close is pointless. Most of the teams that would trade for him would be wanting him in a set up role. The saves would just make him cost more in arbitration.

No one really wants Givens.
