Loewen went 1-for-1 today with an RBI single and is batting .333 through two games for Toronto.

Ramon went 0-for-2 with a K today and is hitting .250 for Cincy.

Millar went 0-for-1 with a BB yesterday, DNP today.

Cabrera has not pitched yet in the first two games for the Gnats.

The only one I wonder about is Loewen...could he be the next Ankiel?

I asked one of the guys (an ex-college baseball player) on my softball team that very question last year. He says the odds are very, very long. It will be an uplifting story if it happens, but I wouldn't put large cash on it.

Luis Matos sighting yesterday. He's trying to get a bench job with MIN after playing last season in Yucatan. Anyone know if Payton hooked up with a team?

Payton hasn't even signed a minor league deal with a team yet. There was talk of possibly signing with the BJs depending on Wells' injury.

Ramon isn't doing too bad at all so far for the Reds. I don't really care how he's hitting right now (that's going to go up and down all spring) but I'm very encouraged that he's working well with the Reds pitchers. They all seem to like him too so maybe that whole change of scenery thing really is going to work out for him.

I was at the Nats-Cards game on Saturday in which Cabrera matched up against Chris Carpenter. It was no contest. The 1st 3 hitters against Cabrera hit him solidly: Schumaker singled and went to 3rd on Yadi Molina's single. Pujols then lined a double off the wall to score Schumaker -- technically I guess it was just a single since Yadi was too slow to make it to third before the outfield relay.

Cardinals pitchers no hit the Nats for 5 innings, with the only baserunner being a HBP by Carpenter in the 1st inning. I had to catch a plane, so I left after the 6th inning with the score 8-0; final was 9-2. Dan ended up allowing 2 runs, 1 earned, on 4 hits, in 2 innings. No walks (good), but no strikeouts (bad).

    • I’m willing to wait and be patient until the end of the offseason. What choice do any of us really have? But if the Orioles plan is to “nickel and dime” Free Agents, go bargain bin shopping, rely on prospect growth, and convince fans they are still in a rebuild with a “limited budget”; I think this will tell me all I need to know. The first name may have changed with ownership, but the last name is still the same. If we don’t spend big now with this minuscule payroll when will we ever? If arb is going to be used as a reason to not spend on Free Agency will it get better when our younger players get more expensive through raises? My greatest hope is that the Orioles actually care about their fans and MORE IMPORTANTLY about winning a championship. I know to each his/her own, but I will never be able to get behind billions budgeting and pinching pennies to make more millions.
    • It’s a huge problem in our society today that if something gets said three times on Twitter, people will take it for a fact.  Let’s just wait until we have an authoritative report.
    • Reveal show had detail it was in-person meeting today (so Kim Ng couldn't be working on her Orioles trades).    Chipper had a travel-cancelling illness, and was replaced by some old Diamondbacks exec the current HOF president could get on short notice. Congrats Crime Dog.    I either forgot or never knew the detail from Harold Reynolds after the announcement it was Kirby Puckett who bestowed the nickname on a Japan tour.
    • I believe Elias has more money to play with as the 30 million Bam money comes into play.   I look for a signing of Tailon, Bell, and back up catcher by Christmas. Mullins CF Rutschman  C Henderson 3B  Bell DH Santander RF Mountcastle 1B Hays/Stowers LF Westburg 2B Mateo SS
    • Or, they could turn out to be very wrong.    I do agree that the impact FA pitchers will cost that much or more.  There may be some trade targets who won’t, at least in 2023.
    • I still doubt you’d be correct.  Check back in 20 years!
