I'd be psyched with Tubby.

He would be a fantastic hire, and although I think I may want Capel more, I certainly would be thrilled with Tubby.

Gotta think Landesberg and Spurlock would be psyched about that, he is certainly a name that people know.

I'd definitely be pumped by this.

Tubby's the guy, book it.

Really? I would be surprised, but that would be a good hire. I wouldn't think Tubby would leave Minnesota so soon.

I think for Sean Miller that would be a bad move. Grant I could see going. I don't think Capel leaves Oklahoma for Virginia.

I'd be surprised if he turns it down, assuming my info is correct and he is the only guy on their radar for now. He and his wife are from nearby, and what coach wouldn't love to coach in a Basketball conference as opposed to a Football one like the Big Ten.

Capel, same thing. Oklahoma is a football school, always has been, always will be. He'll lose Griffin and maybe Willie Warren too. he'd be nuts not to go if offered.

Grant has the experience with Florida, but I don't know how much having Maynor made him a better coach, you know? The jury is still out, although he'd be smart to take a "big" job now.

Its an interesting decisions...On one hand, UVA has a better tradition, is in the ACC, great facilities and has a hot bed to recruit from(Balt/DC).

OTOH, he doesn't have to compete with UNC and Duke in the Big 10...Mich St is a great program but other than that, he could make Minnesota #2 in that conference.

Of course, a 4th program hasn't really stepped up in the ACC and Tubby could do that quickly since he is a far superior coach to most of the league.

BUt Oklahoma does have a good basketball tradition...I wouldn't fault Capel for not going but I think he is probably an ACC and would go.

Could be a good one...Already has relationships with people in the area in terms of recruiting...Gotta think he leaves after this season, since Maynor is gone.

Isn't the knock on Tubby that he is a great coach but not a good recruiter? Sounds familiar. Texas over Duke today!!!

Capel is an ACC guy, from North Carolina and though Oklahoma does have a decent hoops tradition, I think Virginia is a better job.

Tubby would immeadiately become one of the upper echelon coaches in the ACC (Gary, Roy, K), and I agree he'd have Virginia contending within two years. Tubby and Gary are the two best "coaching up" guys in the country IMO. Guys that play for each of them normally get better each year. Their track records speak for themselves.

We agree on Grant totally. I think Dixon might end up in Arizona (even if Pitt wins it all), so that job will be a big one for a guy like Grant to be a "hot" name for.

Totally, but like I said above, they're the two best at coaching up in the land. Tubby's not the recruiter that Pitino was, and that was his ultimate downfall there. Don't think he wasn't smiling when Minnesota got in and wonder boy Gillespie is in the NIT.

If Pitt opens up there is a 100% chance that Sean Miller gets that job.

Yeah, what is up with Gillespie? I mean he walked on water 2 years ago.

    • I was listening to a Fox Sports Radio broadcast (sorry, can't remember who it was). They put the teams into tiers. The O's were in the top tier along with the Yankees, Dodgers and Phillies. I don't know how long it's been that during the season, someone would have called us top tier. And to think, this is happening with two of our starters out for the year and Bradish and Kremer have spent time on the IL. We are doing this with Hays, Mullins, Urias and Santander starting the season on an extreme slump. We have done this with Mateo starting almost every day (which most people thought would be a horrible thing). We have done this with a bullpen that has been very inconsistent. Imagine if we get some of this stuff fixed and some people back to just playing to their career averages.
    • I'm not sure what we are doing with Vieira. I figured the trade was about the prospect and they had to take him and his salary to make it happen. I expected him to be DFA right away and they would try to send him to the minors to work on him.
    • What would differentiate them?
    • Btw, in the 4 game series against the Jays last year (July 31-Aug. 3rd), it is insane that Mountcastle hit for an .846(!) avg with an OPS of 1.932!
    • Vieira doesn’t have options.
    • May 2024 This month, two non-prospects were obvious choices for MiL Plsyer and Pitcher of the Month: Player of the Month 28-year old Daniel Johnson led the org in SLG, OPS, HR (tie) and RBI.  He hit .350/.439/.725 with 6 HR and 23 RBI pm In the prospect division, I’m going with 19-year old Leandro Arias, .333/.400/.667 with 3 HR and 13 RBI in 16 games.   Honorable mentions to Ellis Cuevas at .992 OPS, Heston Kjerstad .964 with 14 RBI in 16 games after returning to the minors, and Stiven Acevedo at .953.   Pitcher of the Month In between stinking up the major leagues, 27-year old Jonathan Heasley pitched 16 scoreless innings with an 0.813 WHIP. In the prospect division, 21-year old Edgar Portes pitched to an 0.42 ERA in 20.2 innings, with an 0.919 WHIP and 11.8 K/9.   Honorable mentions: Eccel Correa 0.96 ERA in 18.2 IP, and Trey Gibson with a 1.76 ERA, 1.044 WHIP, and 15.3 K/9 in 15.1 IP.
