Round of 32: #4 Maryland v. #5 West Virginia (3/22) (8:40 pm ET)

Both teams struggled to advance in their first games. Based on the styles of play, this one probably won't be pretty to watch.

Maryland will need a little more from their big three, especially Jake Layman. He is, and has been, the key to Maryland really putting the hammer down on someone. There's a huge difference between being able to score from two spots and being able to score from three. Maryland's entire offense changes when Layman is a threat.

West Virginia loves to run on offense and press on defense. This game will be a lot about Maryland fending off West Virginia's disruptive defense and playing at Maryland's pace on offense. If Maryland can do those two things, they have a shot. But if they're bothered by the press and try to run with West Virginia, this might be the end.

West Virginia fouls a lot. If they stay true to form Maryland could spend most of the game at the free throw line.

What the hell was that? Trimble was blatantly fouled on the three point attempt. No call. WVU player comes down and tripsover his own feet and Layman gets called for a foul. Ridiculous.

That's a really bad sign. Maryland needs those foul calls against West Virginia to win.

Not a pretty start. WV is shooting lights out from 3-point land and we are missing layups. Some more questionable officiating too.

Yeh, but those 20% 3 point shooters are gonna throw up bricks sooner or later.

Yep, good call. Ever since I said that I think they've bricked three in a row. 6-0 run by the Terps, now it's tied up.

Great to see Layman looking like he is back on track so far. As the OP mentioned, he is a huge key to this game. Also, a little worried about the way we are looking against WV's pressure D.

Wow, looks like the pressure's backfiring on them all of a sudden. Great passing and great athleticism from Trimble is breaking it. And Maryland is already in the double bonus with 4 minutes left, so huge advantage there.

Wells is having a terrible half and we are up a point so I'm encouraged.

Wells has been having a terrible half indeed. Making a lot of bad turnovers. Good to see him finally show a sign of life with his first points of the night, a three ball. 34-31 Terps.

I hope that shot gets him going.

Jake is playing soft and Wells is frustrated as hell. Not good.

Not good at all. I have a feeling the turnovers and missed opportunities on the boards are going to come back to bite us.

Funny how the freshmen are handling the press well, everybody else not so much.

Dez has really been bad but we are right there with them. Laymen being soft isn't a surprise. He's a year younger Schmatris, (forgive the spelling)

Dez Wells is a current version of Walt Williamns, without him, this program would have really bottomed out. So, no matter what he does in the 2nd half, he'll always be one of my favorite Terrapins.

I just have no idea what to think at this point. There are a few really good signs and a few really bad ones. This game has gone faster than my brain.
