  1. Cowser can play CF now, but he doesn't have the quickness and overall footspeed that you would want out there ideally. He's going to be better in the corner and while he has a RF arm, he might be a really good fit for LF in Camden Yards. In fact, I'd like to see him get some experience there next year at Norfolk.
  2. oWAR needs to be relooked when a hitter slashes .179/.265/.287/.552 and does not get a negative WAR. Oh, as for his dWAR being 0.4, that needs to be looked at as well. His Rdrs/yr was -23, he threw out 25% (lg avg with 31%), 13th percentile pop times to 2B, and 1 percentile framing. Might be time for them to recalibrate dWAR for catchers because Chirinos was bad in every aspect other than blocking really, and no way he made up all of that with his blocking.
  3. That is bold. I do think we will see some trades happen that involved moving prospects, but I would be surprised if they happen before December. Never know though.
  4. Chirinos is a not a major league player any more. I'd go with Cam Gallagher way before Chirinos. It's time for Chironos to retire. Adley is not the kind of catcher who needs a "veteran" presence. the Orioles just need a guy who can start 30-35 times a year and not kill the team when he's in there.
  5. Gallagher has always been a decent back up option if they want to go defense as a priority. Don't really know much about Kolozsvary other than he's a little guy that hasn't hit since rookie ball, so I imagine he's a very good defensive catcher to have made it to the big leagues and now two 40-man rosters. I'll be honest, Kolozsvary is a guy I'd be fine with putting through DFA and resigning him to a minor league contract with a split major league option like they gave Bemboom. Saying that, I want to see Maverick Handley being the priority play at Norfolk next year but we do know injuries happen.
  6. I had to chuckle a bit at this. Not at the poster who did some great analysis in the post, but the fact that the Orioles prioritized grabbing back p catcher options after the season including the silly one in Bemboom. Clearly Cam Gallagher (who is a great receiver, framer an blocker) and Mark Kolozsvary (who is only 2 1/2 years older than Rutschman) have the early lead since they are still on the 40-man. As for the OPs choices, I have to imagine that Christian Vazquez will be looking for a place where he will get more playing time than he will as backup catcher to Adley.
  7. It's that time of year once again where we give you an in-depth view of the Orioles system. This year, we will be adding in a risk rating based on level played at and injury history for each prospect. This list was produced after performing 100s of hours of video scouting, analyzing statistics, and conversations with player development personnel and professional scouts inside and outside of the organization. 8. You bring up some good points, but the age factor and the fact he has the skill set of the kind of player that typically declines earlier than others would concern me if I were an GM. I don't think he's the guy we saw in Houston, but it would not surprise me if he's not a low .700 OPS locked into a first base defensively going forward.
  9. That was certainly his highlight with the Astros during the playoffs. He didn't play very well for the Astros for some reason, but I'm happy for him. Couldn't happen to a better guy.
  10. He's a wildcard at this point. We really don't know who he is because of the injuries. Next year is certainly a make or break year for him to be a priority play. He's got to stay healthy and produce.
  11. I don't have a super issue with Cave being deep depth since he is reportedly a good defensive CF who hits left-handed. I'm not sure he will need to be protected from the Rule 5 draft though. He does provide immediate insurance for Mullins.
  12. Obviously you continue to miss the point as to why I, and several other smart baseball people could not think of one reason to put Bemboom on the 40-man roster. But if it makes you feel good to pat your self on the back, feel free. It was dumb, unnecessary and never made any sense. You are fine with the organization making completely and utterly ridiculous moves just because they were going to DFA them before the Rule 5 draft, well good for you. As I spoke with others around baseball, they just laughed and were befuddled why Bemboon would any organization's first business of the offseason. Most were just befuddled as to why the organization made him any kind of priority. And the last thing I will say about this is there was no hand wringing. There was legitimate concern that the organization valued him in any way that they would put him on the 40-man after the season, regardless of the amount of time. As the title of this thread suggests, it remains a befuddling move as they could have just signed him to the same contract without adding him. And IF he wanted to more for some reason. they should have helped packed his bags as he we never have a significant role on a contending team and he's not some Crash Davis savant who makes pitchers better in the minor leagues.
  13. Gotcha, no worries. You are looking deep into the system, I like that. Good job. And I'll be honest, I haven't seen any threads on the Rule 5 already so it must be buried in another thread somewhere. We probably need one thread to discuss the Rule 5 eligible players and the 40-man.
  14. I'm not sure why they can't afford both honestly. Now whether they will with the current lawsuits involving current ownership is the real question.
  15. With the quality of pitching being down by all accounts in the AFL this year, the strikeouts are a yellow flag in my opinion. Either way, if healthy, I imagine he will start 2023 in Bowie and we'll have a better idea of who he is after next season.
  16. Maverick Handley is the only player on your list that should even be considered for the 40-man. Since the Orioles are cornering the market on backup catchers already, they may not see the need though.
  17. With my prospect work I don't have the time to research that kind of stuff. SG and others are much better at knowing who could be available than me. Either way, the Orioles are not going to be assigning one player to DH. It would be a rotation between Santander, Stowers, and Rutschman right now before any offseason moves.
  18. He said mismanagement of the roster, which to me indicates Elias insistence on playing Odor regularly almost all season (until last 3-4 weeks), the head scratching decision to acquire and play Aguilar against left-handed pitching (even some right-handed pitchers), and the head scratching lineups that saw Stowers ride the pine in favor of Aguilar when Stowers needed the experience and hit left-handers well his entire minor league career. Since we don't know who sets the lineups (my guess is it comes down from above for Hyde to implement with Hyde only having say if a player is tired or banged up), we don't know where the blame goes. Considering the evaluation staff for Elias liked Odor, Aguilar and now Bemboom, I have to start questioning them more than the manager.
  19. I think the Orioles preference will be to use the DH in a rotational basis, not assigned to one main player. Regardless of whether they go with a prospect/young player from within, trade, or acquire a player in FA, the Orioles need some of the DH PAs for Rutschman when he's not catching. Right now the Orioles need to add a legitimate middle of the order hitter to the lineup. While Rutschman and Henderson could certainly develop into that guy, I think looking for that big bopper 1B might be the better position to focus on.
  20. I'd help back his bags for Gallen, but I doubt AZ would do that.
  21. On the bright side, he's cornered the market on AAA backup catchers, so teams will be struggling to find one this offseason. By the way, I did some digging and talked to some people in the industry about the Bemboom thing and EVERY single person have no idea why Bemboom was a priority to keep from becoming a minor league free agent. As one "Scout" who saw him in AAA this year said, and I'm paraphrasing, "He can't hit and he wasn't even good defensively." Another said "They apparently are going off some metrics in his big league time that weren't terrible, but he's not very good." Anyways, it will be interesting to see what route they go this offseason. They have some depth at SS and 2B if they consider both Westburg and Ortiz ready, and most do think they are major league ready. Their outfield depth may not be as deep as some think at the high levels of the system, with Cowser getting mixed reactions (more on that in his scouting profile).
  22. Lol, if your post was suppose to be "a joke" it was lost in the desert like dryness of the response. ANYWAYS, Bryan Bass was a blast from the past and honestly, I barely remember Brian Bass pitching for us. No offense to him, but after looking up his stats, his forgettable 2009 season makes me think they were dragging the bottom of the barrel to find ex-players for the autograph sessions.
  23. Were they sad when he wasn't the guy signing the autographs, because in your rush to be contrarian, you missed the second part. Not to mention it was clearly a joke.
  24. I see this is as the most likely scenario. I'd love for the Orioles to sig deGrom, but I just don't see it likely that the Mets allow him to leave when they are World Series contenders next year.
  25. GG award has been a joke for years. The year Ripken lost it when he made 3 errors in 161 games at SS was the last year I gave any care about the award.
