  1. I thought for the purposes of actually Rule 5 draft it was set Dec 2. So whatever it is now means they can/can't participate at this point. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rule_5_draft The selection order of the teams is based on each team's win-loss record from the prior regular season, as in the amateur draft, each round starting with the team with the worst record and proceeding in order to the team with the best record. Teams may choose not to select any player with their pick, passing to the next team in the order. Any player selected under Rule 5 is immediately added to his new team's 40-man roster; thus, teams who do not have an available roster spot may not participate in the Rule 5 draft. Players who are not currently on their team's 40-man roster are eligible to be selected in the Rule 5 draft, but only after a standard exemption period has elapsed, per selection eligibility below.
  2. Yeah, if they can save they will, otherwise I hope this is the year.
  3. Historically several teams don't participate or have full 40 man rosters. Is there a place to see which teams are full up already?
  4. 2 years ago when people suggested this, I would have said the Chances were negative 100%. After dropping from remaining money 4/68 to 2/34, I think we are like negative 80%. So the chances are improving in my mind.
  5. The most impressive part of this thread is the 2am find/post and the 3am response. This place really is around the clock.
  6. Well, we aren't paying that 3.5 million this year, so maybe we are about too. At least the more we spend there you can consider it the case.
  7. I find this hard to answer today. As we are still living one today, I know there is a bias towards this current Davis blunder. But both will clearly go down as some of the worst moves around.
  8. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/texas-sports-nation/astros/article/Astros-trade-for-pitcher-Hector-Velazquez-Orioles-15442933.php You might be thinking this guy. He was traded so fast he probably never hit the 60 man.
  9. In fairness, all GMs will do this, so there really is not much to it. ME might be more blunt/direct, but rosy talk on new guys is normal. If he ever trades for a guy and says it was better than a bag of balls, then we can be worried about the decision.
  10. If he's 19 and not shaving, I am convinced he will never be a productive major leaguer. Haha
  11. https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/kansas-city-royals/Maikel-Franco-16052/cash-earnings/ Listed as 1.5 mill last year in link above. https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/kansas-city-royals/Maikel-Franco-16052/ Although this link says 2.9 mill, so the difference is likely short season pro-rated to get the 1.5... He went from negative to positive WAR (~-0.8 to 0.8) from 19 - 20, so I'd guess he will look for more than the 2.9 deal he signed last year. Will he get it, who knows....
  12. I think it's mostly this, with future upside. They do seem to like what the Angels were doing during the 2018 draft. The quote saying they aren't ready this year shows that money is definitely a piece. I feel like they have a pool of ~1 win players and they are willing to keep the ones that are ~1-2 million (Valiaka, Severino, Armstrong) and not the 2 mill + (Alberto, Nunez, Iglesias, throw in Villar of last year as well). They are assuming they can get close to the value ~1 win for less (and I still think that could include Nunez or Alberto if they come down to the 1-2 mill range). If they get Alberto and Nunez back at 2mill or so, then the penny pinching may not look quite as bad. Now even if Alberto and Nunez come back that has no impact to middle infield defense argument. I totally get it's not exciting and at times downright frustrating. Certainly not going to argue that.
  13. I meant over the last 2 year surge, but yes I guess saying he won't be at OPS+ 160 isn't really going out on a limb. Haha
  14. I was simply joking about Mountcastle to SS. It is annoying that we all got excited about a strong 2B/SS combo and it went away like 2 days later. I don't think Iglesias was a good bet to maintain his offensive numbers, but I agree he would have (likely) been more exciting than what our plan will be.
  15. I was really hoping you meant he had a crazy submarine motion, until I saw the Pedro mention. Height, boo. Haha
  16. Would that be different than having Iglesias there? (and no I'm not endorsing the move) Was there anything from alternate camp about Martin? His rule V year his D wasn't great, but he got higher marks when picked. I would guess he gets at least some time at SS this year after the trade of Iglesias and it would be good to know if there was some progress seen.
  17. I see an Astro that can play infield (3B). Can't we already send the card to the podium.
  18. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/n/nunezre01.shtml https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/santaan02.shtml I find it hilarious that you're unhappy about Nunez getting DFA'dand then so indifferent for Santander. Neither are world beaters, but they offensively are fairly similar and defensively Santander has a place. If nothing else the view should be at minimum similar.
  19. Health is unpredictable, so even mountcastle could miss. There is always concern for those things. If Elias thinks Diaz and Stewart are ready and wants extended looks, he needs at-bats to give. Nunez had moments, but I'd rather see other guys that have a long term future here, even if they struggle. I agree money was part of it, but Nunez isn't that great when accounting for defense and I think this makes more sense for where this team is in for their rebuild.
  20. He knows how other players played at Bowie and data unrelated to injuries. Maybe he's happy with the next man up. There's lots of info we don't know that has nothing to do with injuries and it's silly to only focus on injuries as info we don't know. Maybe he's traded for 100 SS's because he was tired of our effort to corner the 1B/DH market and the roster that has 1B types being tried at 3B, LF and RF at times. Maybe he does want a team that can play solid defense all around. Although he does officially know what Kjerstad had, so that's medical info he knows we don't... I'm sure there is more that isn't disclosed that can provide more then you assume to be true. Maybe he thinks he can just get Nunez back cheaper. All that being said, money is part of it. Which has cause arguments over Villar and other players too. This isn't really a shock based on the expectation when Elias was brought in. It truly blows my mind people are really this worried over Nunez.
  21. So basically you're saying if we can fix 2/3 of our team we'd be good?
  22. With all the losing the O's have been doing, I think you need this attitude to show up and do you're best everyday. There are some promising things going on and as a team there is certainly more to cheer about. When you compare to records, other teams, stats... it doesn't quite match up, but I do think it's the right player to have on a team that is rebuilding.
  23. Summary of player trades this year (+1 since I found it). Mychal Givens- Terrin Vavra, Tyler Nevin and Mishael Deson* Miguel Castro- Kevin Smith, Victor Gonzalez* Tommy Milone- AJ Graffanino*, Greg Cullen* Richard Bleier- Isaac DeLeon* Hector Velazquez- Miguel Padilla* Intl Slots- Connor Loeprich (not trade deadline, but I'm putting here anyway) *Players were PTBNL. Hopefully we can look back and find a few guys from this list that are solid contributors in a few years.
