Anybody want to argue Trout over Lebron as male athlete of the decade?

LeBron’s won gold medal too. Has that guy been in a remake of Space Jam? -
Best (team) draft of all time?

1999 Orioles? I’ll see myself out. -
Are there publications that say we have a top 5 farm system? I can’t access the subscription based sites, but from what I can see, we are in the 10-15 range. Sincere question, as it relates to your point about firing an unsuccessful GM (in terms MLB w/l) after five years if it looks like they may be competitive in year seven: do you believe that the Orioles let go of MacPhail too early?
-
That assumption would come from what I’ve read here as I don’t read too much Orioles news that isn’t filtered through here. But I can’t find anything. Cots has GM/manager contract info for the other teams I sampled. I wonder what the reasoning is behind being so vague. While searching, I read that Elias was the highest paid first-year GM. But I didn’t see what that salary was.

After 2022 in this scenario, what are you doing with Elias’ contract? Do you let him go into 2023 without an extension? What they shouldn’t do, is repeat the mistake they made with Duquette and let him go into his final year without being fired or an extension. We can’t have a guy make a bunch of win-now moves at the expense of the future and we can’t have a lame duck executive trading off assets.

Others would simply waste it. -
I was looking to put this in the moving to Nashville thread, but maybe that was locked—didn’t see it in the search results. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.letsgotribe.com/platform/amp/2019/11/21/20976560/so-apparently-the-indians-almost-had-a-new-owner I saw comments from Indians fans on Mlbtraderumors, in a Clevenger thread. Seems like there is concern about the Dolans being “cash poor” and the new Royals owner who was the one to keep payroll afloat during their WS run.

Clevenger may end up being a SP chip. LAA seems to be in on him.

Blue Jays get Ryu for 4/80.

Trezza: O's top 10 defensive plays of the decade
backwardsk replied to Frobby's topic in Orioles Talk
Was watching mlb highlights today and there was this one play against Boston. Runners on 1st and 2nd, ground ball to Manny’s left. He tries to tag the runner, but he puts on the breaks, and moves back toward second. Manny makes a quick throw to Schoop at 2nd on the force. Then Schoop throws to Hardy covering third who makes the DP tag. -
Dallas Keuchel to CWS for 3/55.5

Would you offer Hays or Mountcastle a long term deal now?

Most guys on this team would still be overpaid. -

They are definitely not the prospect level as the Braves guys, but the commitment in the controlled years is less than half. -

I voted yes for Hays and no for Mountcastle. $24M committed to Hays over six years is little risk. I looked at how Kingery’s salary is distributed. He’s getting 1, 1.5, and 1.75 in his first three years. So that’s a little bit more than $2M more than he would have received if he didn’t do the deal. With Hays I wouldn’t give him 4 per year, but a little bit more than Kingery. Maybe something like 1, 2, 3.5. If you put more upfront, he could make a very attractive trade piece as he’ll have less money owed to him in the latter years. Also, these types of deals are attractive to teams that are bumping up against the luxury tax threshold. The wrench in this strategy is that the new CBA could totally blow up the economics. Someone like Mountcastle may end up expecting more than 560k, or whatever it is, in year two and three anyway. -

If Steve Pearce didn’t retire, we could grab both and re-release the Give Pearce a Chance thread.

I was having trouble with OF after Trout. Cain’s rWAR is close to McCutchen’s while McCutchen really tapered off in the last half of the decade. I was thinking about Harper, but he didn’t play in 2010-11 and had two poor years even though he had one great year. I like your pitching suggestion.

Going off the top of my head, I’d go with: 1B Cabrera 2B Cano 3B Beltre SS Simmons OF Trout, Stanton, Cain C Molina DH Ortiz P Kershaw, Scherzer, Hamels, Hernandez, Grienke Who did I omit? Where am I way off?

Wade Miley to the Reds for 2/15.

I read that 25% number and had my doubts. Then I got on the google machine, and that is in line with the national average. Quite scary. The information I read stated that 12M people 65 and over have it. 48M people 65 and over seemed low too. But the census count in 2010 was around 40M. I would have thought that cohort would have a larger population share. The good news for me is that I have a low risk according to the online quiz. So, ha, no doctor’s visit for me.
